This is a very well-done poem. Even if it's not political satire, as you say, it certainly does a wonderful job of showing the downside of prejudice and segregation. By using personified fruit, rather than actual people, it doesn't make the reader feel as though the point is being shoved in his face. It makes it enjoyable to read, and takes the guilt out of being happy that the king gets his comeuppance.

Ah, yes, if it were only that easy to counter bad fruit. Love this kind of rhyme and a good story. Might be just a bit long for some, but I certainly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this little satirical piece then I got to the real joke in the Author's note. 'There is no political satire intended nor is there a political agenda attached.' There is only one possible comment to that statement -- bull@&it!
