Pome, You and I agree on so many things enumerated in your poem! We should never embrace anything remotely close to socialism. Censorship, the ugly partisan support of lies by hiding the other side of the story. Having had two of my family barely miss dying in World War II, I feel so strongly about what is happening to our beautiful, radiant country. There are those like the squad who should never have made it to Congress. Great writing and wonderful tribute to a great nation and great men who have suffered and died for her!

Ginny, you have made my day. Thank you! I think the libs are "embracing" it as fast as their power-hungry little selves can.
I cannot understand those who live in this country and want to change everything good about it. I've got to hope that we regain the House and Senate in '22 and have the power to override Biden's executive orders. Can you imagine his talk with Putin? Several people I know are so stressed over this upside down situation they hardly watch the news any more. I have to know what's going on - at least what we're told.
Thank you for your great comments!

I?m thinking that they want to appear great in numbers, but when Trump begins his rallies and his social network, I plan to leave the traitor on Facebook. I can?t just now because it is my contact with family in Charleston and students that I taught in addition to hometown buddies. We are going to overcome this stolen election and God is in Control. I hope that we haven?t reached the end times yet. 🙏🌹😊

Ginny, I hope so, too! My SC sister and I have been wondering if "we" aren't bringing down our own destruction, as a people, many of whom HAVE deserted God, along with all this promotion of Socialism in America. I am a Trump fan, but, I'll tell you, I really think there are a lot of Republicans (including myself) who don't want to go through the hateful, violent response to him for 4 more years. IF Desantis should run and if he picked a strong woman for VP, I think we'd win. I'd be for that.
Another thing:) I would think businessmen (democrat) would be ready to strangle Biden. I heard today that he closed our border with Canada and people - businessmen, truckers, families cannot get across or even into Alaska! costing millions of $ of lost business, not to mention stress for families - HOWEVER, our southern border is letting the whole world in, a national safety threat to out country.

This writing is an appreciation and a thank you to our warriors and their families. This is how it spoke to me anyway. The American people should be ashamed of themselves about the lack of grateful hearts to the men and women that love them and their country. No greater love than one to lay their life down for another. Ask yourself, could you do it? Then to see such disgrace unfolding in our nation is heartbreaking. I pray for their families, friends and all those that live everyday that sacrifice their very lives to protect what we all should love all the way to death!

thank you, sincerely, Jennifer!!! I think some Americans should be ashamed, too. I want to weep for this country, but also I do get angry, and I feel, that besides voting, all I can do is speak up in defense of what America stands for and her patriots and fallen heroes. Who would ever have thought that Americans wouldn't love
their country, would apologize for it. They belittle those who gave their lives for it.

I like how you bring up the point if we're the America worth dying for. I'm pretty sure that a lot of liberals won't appreciate what you wrote, but I do. Good luck in the contest.

These are very powerful thoughts, clearly expressed. We're a sorry lot, compared to the greatest generation. Used to be, election day was a way to express our thoughts about what's going on, but now the integrity of our elections is up for grabs. Yes, socialism is creeping in, and one thing that's making it happen is the teaching of critical race theory in the schools and workplaces. This administration is bending over backwards to bring in the migrants and coddle criminals, That is not uniting the country. I'm with you. We need to see that these maneuvers are stopped. Thanks to those brave soldiers who fought for what our country used to be. Best of luck in the contest. judi

thanks, Judi!! It is amazing to me the people who either don't see what's happening or I guess they agree with it. I think in the FS "family", conservatives are considered the bad boys.
    Thanks for the good wishes.

You're very welcome. I'm glad conservative writers are free to express themselves on FS. So many places, they're being suppressed. judi

I like the presentation of this poem! The author's words are confronting,
detailed, honoring and creative. I thought about these words and I
fully agree with the theme of this poem. The artwork is perfect and compliments this poem. Thank you for author's notes.

I agree that we do need to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country and for the welfare and justice of other countries. In the overall history of humanity, this has come and gone and God controls all the governments. Our trust has to be in Him and true peace is in Jesus and our warfare with really against Satan who wants to divide us.

I don't doubt for a minute that Satan is having a field day in our country at present, but I believe people in power and people, period, are responsible for what they do. Not blaming wrong doers is like a little kid trying to get out of trouble by saying "the devil made me do it."

You have a nicely constructed work here and it gives some very important ideals. In line 3 I think "wonder" would work better as it is more immediate. Line 12, you might say "German" as they would recognize it as their country under Hitler. I agree about most of what you say but the 50s and 60s were violently racist. The soldiers fought for a better country, one where my rainbow of children and grandchildren can safely grow up. Good luck with this; it is very inspirational.

thank you, Carol for your detailed input. However, if Nazi isn't recognizable as Germany under Hitler, I give up.
I wish you luck with your rainbow of lovely children with the racism Al Sharpton and the radical Left are determined to bring back.
Thanks for your wish of good luck.

For some reason I didn't think you meant the Nazis (German) point of view in that paragraph.
reply by the author on 26-May-2021
Carol, I'm not trying to be difficult or rude, but why not? why wouldn't I mean the Nazi government in Germany? The people in government then were Nazis
reply by Carol Hillebrenner on 26-May-2021
I just reread that verse a couple of times and I think I thought you were talking about Americans of German descent (I'm Prussian and German) and I don't know what I thought then. Sorry, I'm confusing me as well.

heavens, no. I didn't mean that. sorry you thought that.

Yes yes yes! Finally somebody said it, and better yet in poem form honoring those we have likely forgotten. This is great and impactful! I wish everybody could read it!

Hello K.

Those that are hidden beneath the headstones in the picture would not understand America today. This is been coming a long time. The problem is, many of today's politicians fuel it.

Your 6th stanza has the same general message that I had in my story: "Chili." It's tough to find people who speak up about it. It's certainly not popular on FS. One writer commented to me that there are good things about socialism.

today I have been told that I was polarized and should honor the fallen. apparently they can't read.
I did have a great response from Robyn Corum - made me feel good.

Katharine,

This is a poem filled with important truths that need to be shouted from the rooftops. Unfortunately, those who are shouting are being shut down by the ones who have power. It's a whole different kind of USA than we've ever known or seen before. Thanks - friend.

It seems you need to add the number of lines in your author notes.

Thanks!
