This was a great read, reminds me of "Nothing Gold Can Stay". It is a fact how everything seems to move along and change as well. From buildings, to homes, to families, mostly to new ways of living. Ask me, some of these new ways have caused much of what we see and hear today. I appreciate history and artifacts of which your poem reflects both. I do believe at the very beginning, you have an "s" that isn't supposed to be there? Thank you for sharing a memorable poem!

I love this! The way you compared the old barn to yourself is brilliant. And I can relate as well. My two youngest bought a house together and moved out this past November. I am feeling kind of like that old barn myself. Well done, and congratulations. Hugs and blessings.

I like how the barn is a metaphor for life. The barn is strong though its old like the speaker. And the family has left it, just like the children have moved away from home. Maybe the something new is restoring the barn
for dances and special occasions. Just and idea.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.

Thank you so much for the review and comment on this poem. That isn't a bad idea. I know really nothing about the history of this barn other than the city has encroached on the farm land, and the current owners are using it for storage. I hope they never tear it down. Restoring it for dances would be a great idea.

You are most kindly welcome. Our city did that to a barn on a lake by my house. And I heard they even have weddings there. I went to the reopening ceremony and it looked good

This is lovely, Beth, and congratulations on your second place finish. Excellent photograph, too. My father tried his hand at farming, but it was difficult if you do it on a small basis. I can well understand why that barn is now standing idle, and why the farmers have all moved away. Only the large operations make it these days, and the farming way of life is fast disappearing, sadly. As you compare to your life in the last stanza, there's a bit of optimism. Perhaps the barn can be restored for some other use. Loved the meter in this. Very smooth. judi

You have a smooth poetic flow of words and I like the image of the barn and how it still has use. I also like the last verse where you describe yourself moving forward in life. Excellent theme for a poem that impacts the reader.

Beth, this is a very descriptive poem with a smoothly-crafted rhyme scheme. I like the metaphorical approach. The old barn, though "faded and gray," still has a use just as an aging person who has been through a lot can still stand and find meaning and purpose. That thought resonates with me as I too am getting on in years. Very well done.

I love this well written rhyming poem and the great photo you took. Yes, buildings wear out and so do people, but we aren't all used up yet! This is a positive and uplifting poem, best of luck in the contest. :)

Sad but sweet as you consider the importance of this old barn which still stands, much like us in our old age. I too love to see and wonder when I see an old barn. I would love it if one were able to talk and tell it's story. You have nailed it in this beautiful poem. Your comparison between the old barn and ourselves is excellent. Great illustration. Great work!
