I remember those days. I was in the military deployed "over there." We were warned loudly about LSD and the potency of the drug. A soldier was brought into a clinic by the medics. He was on a stretcher. He had taken LSD and went into a full catatonic state.

Your story is well narrated as usual.

Liz... Even the bravest of Italians would not consider let alone consume spaghetti and meatballs with a three chasers of mac and cheese. You had a lead balloon sitting in your stomach (especially since it digests slow). Added your fears and phobias and wow... you are lucky you didn't explode. What a party popper that would have been...LOL Smiles, Carol

Trying to come up with another new word, are you? There is almost nothing new under the sun. I enjoyed your story. I've phobias. I don't high places. My nightmare's always involve being high up on ladder or on a bridge with nothing below me and the rungs or slats keep disappearing. That phobia has a legitimist name. I've never had any LSD but I can't imagine much worse than having your brain our of control. Let me give you a six while I still have one.

This is funny as hell. I too have a fear (though not as strong as yours) of ingesting acid. I've always indulged (quite sporadically) in God's green bud, but acid just scared the hell out of me. This is so funny; the carbs attacked you. Love the story, love the writing. Cheers!

Many idols, icons and opinianators from time immemorial have vouched that taking LSD is a unique, one-of-a-kind experience. Honestly, I wanted to try it one having only read about it. But in the small towns, nobody had ever heard of it. The farthest I went in my heroic effort was to share a couple of cheap cigarette puffs with my hostel mates in college. Thank God, I didn't belong to the generation of permanent cripples. You must have had a unique experience. Glad you didn't fall for it. Cheers to life!

How interesting, the closest I got to drugs, was smoking a "joint" when I was nigh on drunk on booze, so I still don't know what it feels like, heh heh, thanks Liz, great post, blessings Roy

I might add 'irrational' to the definition of acidophobia. But I understand the logic behind it. Much of the fear was pure propaganda. Peter Fonda made a mini career out of exploiting the fear with hokey renditions of bad acid trips in Easy Rider and well, The Trip.
On the east coast, at least, window pane was so named because it came on postage stamp-sized paper shaped like a window pane. I've never heard of it smeared on actual windows. That is not to say that never happened, only that I never heard of it.
I took dozens of trips and never had a bad reaction, though they did occur for some people, largely, I suspect, because the manufacture of the stuff was totally unregulated and easy to tamper with.
Your youthful fear is somewhat quaint, but endearing. I'm sure millions of others shared your phobia.
I don't advocate the use of acid by any stretch, but it wasn't the demon's brew it was made out to be.

Peace, Lee

I well remember the horror stories of bad trips on LSD! I get queasy at the thought of taking Ibuprofen...was thoroughly convinced if I ever one snorted Cocaine I would be in that less than 1% who whose heart would stop... The big scare around here was kids lick on tattoos laced with acid! I tried pot...as a non-smoker the only high I got was from lack of oxygen after coughing fits! I went to Woodstock! Pretty sure I was one of five there who were not on some illicit drug!
(The music was awesome! Even for a straight arrow like me!)--Karenina

Really? Gel tabs? I totally believed the literal interpretation! Proof positive I was NOT hip to the drug scene! I was worse than Sulfuric "acid phobia"---I had sciene-
-lab-aphobia! ( So of COURSE I became a nurse!)----Spock would call that an illogical decision! --Karenina
