Wow, I heard stories about spiked drinks and you just confirm that there is more to this story. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

I'd have been terrified! I know a few people who've been tripped up by "friends."

Hi Liz,
I'm glad you had the good judgement to call your mother. You can't be too careful.
When I was going to university, I played on the soccer team. One tournament we played in was in Nova Scotia. It attracted teams from all over the Atlantic provinces.
Well, I didn't play very well. I mean, I wasn't the star of the team, but I couldn't perform well at all. I had been drugged the night before. I don't know who did it, or how they did it. But I'm sure something was added to a beer I was drinking.
I lived a pretty sheltered life, having only one encounter (besides the soccer tourney) with drugs. I didn't participate, but watched a fellow cut off a small chunk of something, and place it on the burning end of a cigarette. He proceeded to breathe in the fumes. It was so foreign to me. I couldn't understand people smoking, let alone doing drugs. Bad news.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Acidophobia? I don't think it's in the DSM-V. But what a journey you have had with fear. Is it less so now? I also applaud you for sharing with others.I am sure there are several who are struggling with similar phobias. You crafted this story very well and you kept yourself from becoming a victim.

Thanks for stopping by Bill--I was just at your place yesterday (CHRISTAL WITH AN "I"). See you soon, I hope. Cheers. LIZ

Wow, 1966, thank God I lived in a corny small Christian town. I don't even think I'd even heard, at the time, of LSD. I liked your story and that strange phobia was very entertaining to learn about.
PS Thank God it was only Mac & Cheese.

This piece of biographical non-fiction is told in a humerous manner. Although addressing a phobia, which seems to have been a real issue for you, the excessive food and beverage consumption made the story very funny. Nice job.

That rotten little Justine, lol.
I can honestly say that my best friend in high school boiled my tea with with some magic mushrooms and told me right after I finished drinking it. Needless to say, that was an interesting night. I still remember how my dog turned golden and the sidewalk became squishy.

As regards "windowpane"--if you get a chance, check out the note I added (in the text).

Wasn't life simpler before such drugs became mainstream? I can just imagine the terror you felt because I also was horrified that someone, somewhere, at some party would add acid to something or other.
When I was at university, I once saw a guy trying to dig a hole on a cement pathway because he wanted to plant some nut he had found. He was using a pen. That did it for me.
You're lucky that you got over the phobia, more or less. Many never got over their little 'trips'. Better a phobia than a trip.

I never heard of that particular phenomenon, but then again, I was not a wild child who hung out with the druggies. I lived at home (when you have McGill U. in your city, you don't tend to go elsewhere), I dated "safe" guys, and I was really naive.

It wasn't as popular when I was growing up, but I've also avoided it like the plague. I'm crazy enough already. I have a feeling I would straight up lose my mind. Or maybe I'd find Jesus. Who knows.
I think this line would read better if you swapped the words even and avoided. I took great care not to touch windows; I avoided even looking through them.

I'm not sure if I swapped the words the way you meant.

I even avoided looking through them sounds right to me.

The note is helpful!

Lol :)

Very humorous indeed. No wonder you felt "strange" after all that food and drink!! And you didn't need to worry in the one circumstance that indicated it, whereas you even previously avoided looking through windows! Lol. Well written,a fun piece, looking back, even if not at the time.

Thank you for that addition. Loved it. Also your fear of chemistry experiments with sulphuric acid. Gives some good stories now though.
Comment from Gloria ....
What a fun story. I remember that huge fear, and it spread like an urban/rural myth. My initial thought was my land, all those carbs in de pasta would be enough to send anyone on a sugar high.
Seems to me to be perfectly rational to be afraid of being burned by acid.
Really enjoyed this one, and the number of phobias is truly staggering, yes? :))
