This was hilarious. I think if you live to be 104 you do not have to watch your tongue, May gave her honest opinion of her sister.
Scott is the real hero here as a kind soul who took over a job without hesitation.
Thank you for the smile.
Regards,
Mary

She loathed her sister her entire life!

Thrilled you got a laugh! Scott just told me this one the other day--he keeps me supplied! Cheers. LIZ

I am laughing hysterically and having trouble typing this.
First of all, Scott sounds like a glutton for punishment and someone needs to shake him by the shoulders and yell "Stop It". But how can anyone not appreciate such a saint?

May perfectly expressed what many of us wish we had the nerve to express at some of the funerals we have attended. It's priceless!

I sometimes think people shouldn't be allowed to age beyond a certain point. They become downright unpleasant and think they can behave exactly as they wish.

Potential SPAG for your consideration:
despite that June's two children, in their eighties, resided in > despite June's two children, in their eighties, residing in

I rechecked the sentence--thought it worked either way.

Hello Liz :)
This creased me!
All that effort Scott went to, to ensure June got a lovely send off and that her sister could be there... only to have her ruin (or make) the moment by her one-liner!
I'm wondering.... does that tell us more about June, or May?!
An entertaining read. Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes as always, Debra

What a shock (May's words). What a compassionate man Scott was to arrange everything for May. I enjoyed reading your little story, Liz. God remembers--both of them.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

That was a horrible thing to say at her sister's funeral, even if May was 104. There are some things you shouldn't get away with saying, regardless of your age. It sounds like Scott went above and beyond to try to get a funeral together. Interesting incident! judi

I don't think it's necessarily true that oldsters have the right to say any old thing they please. Good manners should apply to them as well as the young. judi

This is hilarious!! I've actually said that myself on a couple of occasions (but only under my breath). The family dynamic is always simmering below, and as kind as Scot was, he opened up a wound. Great story, thanks for sharing.

Oh, my goodness, LIz! This had me laughing out loud, once I got to the end. It was such a lovely tribute to the humanitarian efforts Scott makes through out his neighbourhood. I thought it was great that he found June's sister and got her to the funeral. And then, Wham! Too funny.

LMAO! What a great way to start off my Saturday. I usually see things coming long before the punchline, but I have to admit, this one caught me completely by surprise. Thanks for sharing.

This is quite a punch line in the story. I think your friend Scott is a compassionate, centered sort of guy. It appears he can easily identify priorities in his life and do something about them. That's an admirable trait.
