Virtual Medical Care
Trendy Wave Of The Future Or Passing Fad?11 total reviews

Your story outlines well the pros and cons of telemedicine and raises a thought-provoking question- is it the wave of the future or a passing fad. I would like to think the later, but sometimes economics rule without regard to other issues. An enjoyable read on an important topic. Nice job.

Glad you enjoyed this story. Appreciate the review.

I'm wondering about blood pressure and truly examining the patient. When I go in to my primary every 6 months, I expect him to actually examine me, not just review my lab work. I guess I'm strange. LOL Thank you for sharing.

Well written, as always, and interesting. I'm still stuck on the fence, balls getting sore, thinking about all the new virtual services. See, more information than you care to know. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

One of my friends has virtual doctor's visits. I'd be somewhat lacking, myself, because I don't use Zoom. I can see its value in many situations. Although this type of practice came about because of the Corona virus, it's probably here to stay. I suspect that the doctors will still find a way to keep the costs up. I doubt that they will take the place of actual doctor's visits completely, as I think many things might be missed without an actual visit. judi

You're welcome. Virtual doctor's visits are probably going to become more and more the norm. judi

Dear BMW, thank you for posting this essay for our consideration. You asked for feedback and here is my opinion. We do not have to choose an all or nothing situation. you have a very valid point in saying that a patient's response is not the same as a doctors observation. Therefore I would say for people with chronic conditions like those on Medicare, at least two if not three, doctor visits per year, should be required.

I would welcome a phone visit with my Dr. It is so hard for me to go out now at my age in my condition. Nothing ever changes anyhow. I think they just shove my lab work to the side thinking I probably won't be around much longer. I would like to toss the pills and just be me again. LOL I guess that would be the end but I suspect the pills will eventually get me. I think this would be great in some cases. That would give the Dr. time to visit the patient if he feels concern. Nancy:)

Hi Brett, I'm not so sure about this new trend. A lot of people who are anxious about seeing a doctor could hide symptoms and end up becoming very ill. Well written article. Ulla:)))

This is a well-timed article, Brett. I think in these days of COVID it has been a good thing, for anyone who has access to computers. It's good for simple diagnosis to determine if tests or personal consultations are necessary, thus freeing time slots for those more urgent appointments. For instance, I had a spot develop on my face, and change quickly. After looking on the internet, I had some concerns that it could be melanoma. When I called the doctor's office to book an appointment, I was asked if I could send a picture by text. I did. The next day it was confirmed that it wasn't anything life-threatening, just something that comes with age. So I think that some such matters should continue to be discussed this way if possible.

I hope it is a passing fad. I can't imagine paying a doctor to have a telephone conversation with me. I think you'd get far better treatment by looking up your symptoms on line and diagnosing yourself. i've done this successfully numerous times, and have found the solutions to any problems I might have. When it was appendicitis and a gallbladder problem, I knew it was time to go the emergency room. I also knew what medicine to ask a doctor to prescribe for a heart electrical condition. The internet has saved me a ton of money.

Thought-provoking insights much appreciated. So is the review.

This story, Virtual Medical Care, touches on the new procedure of seeing a medical professional through a zoom connection. I think it makes good sense in half the visits, where it is routine and the findings are all gathered verbally or electronically (pulse, BP, EKG, etc.)
This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.
