The author's words are comforting, heartfelt and creative. Thank you
for the author's notes - they are filled with history. I thought about
the beauty of having a place so sacred to be alone and share thoughts
and feelings. The poem flows and connects well. Great Poem!

Nice work. You brought together many different scenes and events with this 300-year-old tree. I'm not much on poetry, but your rhyming scheme is good, though a few lines are a teeny bit forced (in my opinion.) All in all, this is a very good piece, and something I don't think I could write. You, on the other hand, are talented in this area. Keep on writing!

Thank you. Could you please tell me which lines you think our fourced so I could check them again and possibly modify them? Sometimes, when I read my own work, I make up my own stressed syllables and rhythm in my head, and therefore don't read the words the way others do.

First, this is a fine, fine poem. Make no mistake about that. I will, though, give you one example where I think you forced the line (but just a little, mind you.)

George Washington, himself, may well did pause
    Beneath this canopy's serene allure
To rest, or strategize this country's cause.
Where squirrels, birds, and insects ever lodge,

This is fantastic - and the last line lets me down. I feel like you forced something in here that takes away from the beautiful and wonderful historical events that you made earlier in the stanza. Truthfully, the prior lines were so good that this one line seemed a bit - off.

I really enjoyed this poem from a unique point of view. There is a song you must listen to: the band is Blackmore's Night and the song is Hanging Tree. So poetic and so good! Nice job you've done here to remind me of that great song

This is a magnificent tribute to your friend. I love trees. There are 2 that have given me hope. One lit to the core by a lightning strike and another I drive by, 5 minutes from my home. Both worried me that they were dead. But in spring, both sported leaves like flags of victory. I went by my tree today. She is still thriving. Your tree you speak of reminds me a bit of Willow in my book Be Wee With Bea.

We love trees. My kids and my nephew used to give them human names when they were kids. We still have one named Joe, and one named Ed. :-) My tree does not have a name.
Oh, and thank you for your review. Hugs.

that was supposed to split to the core. It was where I used to live in my early years in the convent. Many years later, we had a retreat there. It was Fall so we were to grieve with the tree as she let go of her leaves & to reflect on other messages we received...for another time....this is long enough. Then in spring we went back to see the LIFE. I had tears in the Fall & I had tears of awe and wonder in the Spring.

There's a Huon pine in Tasmania that is reputed to be 2,000 years old. They have the capacity to live 10,000 years. But 300 years is a mite longer than I have lived, this is superbly written, and I thank you so much for sharing it Leann, blessings Roy

Thank you! I don't know if you read my poem before or after I managed to post my tree picture, but if you care to see it, I finally got the picture to upload. Thank you so much for your kind review. Hugs.

I have always loved trees and this one you are writing about sounds like a special one. The imagery you present in your ten line rhyming verses is excellent. I hope that you will be able to post a picture, especially if it is one you took yourself. Best wishes!

My husband has been doing yardwork all day, but I'm asking him to help me by using the computer instead of my phone. I hope this will allow me to successfully post the picture. I did not take it, but my husband did. I'm totally blind, and I'm not very good at taking pictures. LOL thank you so much for your comments and review. It's appreciated. Hugs.

A very impressive poem in tribute to this tree that has stood for so many years and means so much to you. How fortunate you have been to have lived in one place most of your life and had this tree to enjoy.

For sure, I am blessed. I must have sensed, when I was a kid, how amazing this tree is, but it wasn't until I grew up that I really understood. Thank you for your thoughtful and kind comments. Hugs.

The history surrounding the old oak tree and the land is priceless to the country and its roots. But the history of what it means to you is beyond any monetary value. Returning to one's home and all the memories is a gift that can't be replaced. Having moved back to my family home, sitting by the river under a tree, I am at peace. Your poem is outstanding. Smiles, Carol

Actually, I only left this home land of mine for a couple short years when I was married to my first husband. After that, I Purchased my grandparents home from them and have lived here ever since, raising my children on the very ground where I was raised. It's pretty awesome. My sister and her family also live here, next to my parents house. my uncle lives on top of the hill. So, there are four family homes on the same property. We just can't get my brother to move back from Florida to our home in Pennsylvania. That would make it perfect. :-) Thank you for your review, and hugs.

How awesome... When my parents passed, I came back to the home my dad built when I was five... I had to remodel it so Mike's wheelchair and etc would work (little doorways) and added on, but I always knew this is where I would end my days. I added a deck so Mike and I could sit outside and watch the river flow by... He only got to enjoy it for nine months... but I am glad we were here together. We had gotten married in the backyard so there's lots of memories. Smiles, Carol

Hi Leann, what an enchanting poem about your beautiful oak tree, which has been there most of your life, witnessing both your ups and downs. Yes, many a tree has a few stories to tell. Good luck with this gem. Ulla:)))
