This is what I call, seeing the glass half full verses half empty. Love your sense of humor! I feel younger all ready. Happy Mothers Day! May your heart be filled to overflow with love and gratitude!

Does this make me one year younger? If so I am all for this great idea! I certainly feel I have lost a year of my life and I spent my birthday on my own last year for the very first time ever! I enjoyed your positive vibe here as we make the best of those lost years of our life, love Dolly x

personally, I think we should do it every year - go back a yr. Time is flying by, seems to me.

Wow! This is the best idea I've heard since Jack Benny decided to remain 39 for the rest of his life. Your poem is delightful in its reasoning, its support of skipping a birthday.

thanks a lot. I'd forgotten about old Jack. I wish I'd decided that a few years ago.

Katherine... i think at my age I am just going to say that there aren't things called birthdays ever... I can't do handsprings anymore and I'm too tired for anything else. Good idea! Smiles, Carol

you think I could?? fat chance. couldn't as a child.
denial is a good idea, and easier than a handspring.

Hello Katharine.

I think you've stumbled upon a great idea. I not only want to have the year canceled, I think we should redo the election. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
If people could see what they were getting before they got it, they would change their minds.

You may not be able to hear me right now I am cheering for the last line of your poem.

Robert

Thank you kindly! okay, let's un-elect Biden. But who's gonna do away with gigglepuss and Pelosi?
And those voters you're talking about - Let's hope the feel the same way in 22.

I doubt if I change my mind by 22. 😁

I like your sense of humor, Katharine. Yes, happy to lose a year even the one I didn't forget to count! Thanks for the smiles. I wish you hadn't called it a "Chinese virus" as that term has caused a lot of hostility toward Asians like me and my kids. Someone actually spat at my older daughter at a store!

oh, my gosh. that's terrible. I'm so sorry that happened.

Thanks for the sympathy. She's my kid who rarely shares her problems. she didn't tell me until this year. It's so important that influential people avoid ethnic words as there will always be people who take those words and act with with hostility.

Sounds good, but I just had a birthday and we celebrated on Zoom, so it's too late to forget it. I'm the only one who can pretend it never happened. LOL. Thanks for the thought.

celebrated on Zoom. Can you imagine our grandparents reading that and thinking, what in the world?
AND... you may have had a birthday but you could still SAY you were a year younger. does your family really keep track of which one it was??

It is good to see that you haven't run out of poetic inspiration, even though we have just crossed the line of the end of April. I have gone back to my usual habits of more reading than writing (even though I said I wouldn't) and writing prose (only to be expected). Take care, love Katherine xx

Do you read outside? I don't know about your weather, but ours, at the moment, is divine and I've been getting up early and sitting out on the patio, reading and watching my goldfinches, etc. heavenly.
I need to have a lock on this computer that will keep me out for awhile. So.... good for you, relaxing with a book!
Did you ever read A Gentleman in Moscow? I would like another book like that.
Thanks so much for your very kind comment.

I like to read outside, but May has come in with horrible storms and rain here, so we have totally shifted back indoors again (did manage a brisk walk to the shops this morning between showers -nice sun had been hiding out) I am reliving happy memories at the moment, and have settled into To Kill A Mockingbird. No, never seen Gentleman in Moscow... always on the lookout for a new book, but next on the list is a John Grisham I haven't read yet (I find them very soothing)

Great poem Katherine, and a great idea. I would really be for it if my body could reflect that same lost year. This getting older isn't for wimps for sure. When I wake up in the morning I'm wondering what is going to go next. As I've aged, I've been thinking that we've got it backwards. I think teens should work until their thirties and then go to school when they have an appreciation of an education. Also, as we age we should grow stronger, better looking and wealthier. Guess that isn't going to happen though. Good luck in the contest.
Blessings.

Tom

well, Tom, I wish your philosophy was the order of the day!
I'm still chuckling (though it "ain't" funny) over waking up wondering what broke down during the night.
The only problem about school in later life is remembering stuff. My memory's getting very picky about what it will retain and what it won't.
Thanks for your great answer and good wishes.
