"Kid's do the darnedest things," or should it be the dumbest? A funny show, but true in real life too. How we make it through childhood and the teen years is simply luck. Cute story. Thanks for sharing.

Your story held my interest, I like how it is written from your viewpoint as a child. Excellent descriptive words that make the swimming pool a clear scene, even though it is a muddy pool. I am glad your cousin rescued you after diving into the pool.

Wow! Were you ever lucky. It should be criminal that National Geographics would publish such a faulty article about the innate ability to swim. Ain't no such animal! So how long was it before you told your mother? Good luck with your publication.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. Along with plethora of other things --- I never did tell my mother. If I had, I would probably still be grounded. :))))

What a lovely idea, Janet. The memories you are able to share with others are always a treat. You were either very brave or very silly jumping into the water, you really could have drowned. The very idea of snakes in the water would have put me off. Did you ever learn to swim? This was a lovely story, and memory that you've shared with us, my friend. Well done. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you Sandra for your thoughtful review. You are so kind to say "silly". I think jumping in the murky water was one of my dumbest moves. I never did learn to swim well, but I took my children to the local "Y" and they learned at a very early age.

Well written and successfully creates an atmosphere of nostalgia and innocent childhood foibles.
My one recommendation is to somehow insert the fact that Miss Swanson, despite her eagle eyes and nosiness, missed your little adventure. Otherwise, I'm not sure why she's mentioned.

I like the kissing cousins angle! Very cute.

Thank you for sharing this story of your experience as a child. I am sure you still are thankful that your cousin was there and saw you in time. I like your reference to "kissing cousins." I haven't hear that for a long time.

Thank you Anne for your thoughtful review. I'm not sure kids today would understand the "kissing cousins" reference.

Dear Jm, this was a delightful story and really shows your talent as a writer. I know this story will be a great contribution to that book, and everyone will have, in the end, a memory book that is priceless!!

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is fun and well-told and adventuresome and has a surprising conclusion...all the parts in an effective story about something that happened when you were young in your small town. The picture you chose was well suited for this story. I love how you lead the reader along about how you did what you did but didn't want to get caught. Starting out by telling us about the old lady who died, was an excellent way to set the mood.
Brava, Janet, for making this work so well!
Have a nice week,
Jesse

Thank you Jesse for your thoughtful and heartfelt review plus the 6 beautiful stars. I am so please that you enjoyed this one. Thank you too for understanding the 'old lady' that died part of the story and the reason for her being part of the story. Most others didn't get that part.

Ester Williams was my hero too. She taught me to swim and I did it on my first try. It was frantic and sloppy, but I did move forward and didn't drown. LOL I perfected it from there. I was a fish in water and spent my entire summers in the pool until I discovered I was attractive to boys, but that is another story. Good job, Janet. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy for your thoughtful review. I'm glad Ester taught you to swim - I never did learn (maybe I discovered boys to soon) but I made sure my kids learned at a very early age.

There was always some forbidden place that we children could not resist. What a wonderfully written story. Please check your two dialogue sentences. The period goes before the quotation marks." Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day, and God bless.
