What a well written and interesting story to contribute to local history. God was surely watching over you that day, and you were fortunate to have a capable cousin both see and rescue you. I'm sure you've shared a very special bond ever since. Great story.

What an interesting, well-written story! Just like a memory, it floats from one topic to the next. It is natural. It is relatable. I like how introducing Miss. Swanson and your mother's comment shows what kids do when someone isn't looking over them. This is a beautiful story of youthful adventure and risk. Thank you for sharing! Glad your cousin, Donny, was there!

What an endearing poem and what a remembrance. I am sure it brings both a chill and a smile to your face as you recall this particular day in Pennsylvania. Thank goodness for your cousin. Great work!

This really hit home, because I am currently writing my own story about someone who almost drowned...not me though. Kids will always find ways to test things, we just have to hope we survive. This is well written, compelling, and has plenty of angst.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. Yes, kids always find ways to test things.
Years later, my neighbor's son did drowned in a farm pond. Brought to mind what my mother would have gone through if I had drowned.

Lovely story...I had a similar situation on a swamp near our home when I was eight or so...There were boards there and everyone dared everyone else to walk on them - I did and down I went...fortunately one of the older boys was there and dragged my bedraggled bones to safety. My mother did know about it and I got a whaling. You wrote this with a clever turn of phrase and it is great!

Thank you Sherry for your thoughtful review and for sharing your story. If my mother had found out I would have got a whaling too. Fortunately for me, she did not.

That pool sounds exactly like the kind of place kids aren't supposed to go and, of course, they do so. You did a good job of writing about your adventure but I can't believe you talked yourself into jumping into a scummy green pool.

Thank you Carol for your thoughtful review.
I can't believe I did it either. I had snakes and murky water is the worst. I never did learn to swim but I made sure my kids did at an early age.

Your story is entertaining and has many vivid details. What do you mean you are still "kissing cousins "? what does that mean?
I'm from Pennsylvania, too, but southwestern. Are you up near Hermitage? Or are you more towards eerie? I'm just being nebby ð???.

Thank you Leann for your thoughtful review. Yes, southwest PA is totally different than northwestern PA. I actually lived in Warren County near the Kinzua Dam and about 60 miles from Lake Erie. Now I live near Raleigh, NC.
Kissing Cousins is kind of an endearing term form people who are related and close. Like a platonic relationship or best friends but you actually are related to each other. Hope that helps.

Ahhhh... kissing cousins. I understand now. Funny, but I also lived near Raleigh for two years, in Franklin County.

Gee, I wish I had a six for this story! We had a similar life and similar cousins. My cousins were my best friends. We did everything together.
This is such a sweet story of survival. God was there reaching down. I'm sure this will be met with honors. Simply outstanding!
Sending you my best today as always, and my very best wishes with your writing contributions.
