It's not the name that makes the man but what's inside that paves the way to his greatness. Enjoyed your ups and downs of being Nolan Miller. Your autobiography was smooth and humorous. An easy read. Smiles, Carol

Thank you Carol. I had no idea that I was not ever alone in this world. Truly no person ever is, we just sometimes need to be reminded.

-Very nice photo and
good story to go with it.
-You certainly have a tale
to tell about your name.
-The coincidences are very
interesting, especially when
talk about the celebreties
and all the calls you would get.
-But it seems they just kept coming,
even at the current time.
-I wouldn't have expected the name
to be so popular, either, but maybe
it all started with that movie.
-The question is would you
rather be Nolan or nomi on FS?
-I enjoyed your story.

Hello Pam. I really have no preferences at this time. Nomi or Nolan, I will answer to either. The only thing I ignore is hate speech.

Thanks for sharing. I just looked at both names together, and if you took the first two letters, you'd have NoNo!

Your autobiographical story is excellent. It has a very fluid movement to it as if you were in the room talking and telling the story in real time. The more you write the funnier your story becomes. It is a delightful true story. Thank you for sharing a bit of your life.

Thank you for finding some measure of value in it. As a writer, the thing you dread is rejection. If someone, anyone accepts and finds value in what you have written, to me that is golden.

At the battle of Balaclava, it was a staff officer named Captain Louis Nolan, who brought the message to Lord Cardigan to charge for the Russian guns up what Alfred Lord Tennyson later described as 'The Valley of Death'. It was all a ghastly mistake and realising the mistake Nolan rode out in front of the light brigade to try to turn them back. He became the first mortal casualty of the charge.

A most interesting account, together with more on Louis Nolan, born in Canada, by the way, can be found at:

Thank you James. It seems that the name Nolan has both honor and shame attached to it. My hope as of now is to bring a measure of honor to it.

    I am sure you will.

Very amusing--I enjoyed the panoramic view of the virtual white pages. Funny about names--I divorced Greene and wanted a brighter shade--hence, Emerald--there are not many others--wonder if the few are faux too. For fun, make up funny combos and google to see if you find them--e.g. Ophelia Twatt!

OMG! You just made me laugh out loud, giving my wife a start. She says it is unnerving to have me just laugh out loud that way without any sort of warning. I now have to explain why I was laughing, and she laughed as well. Not quite as loudly as me, but she was amused as well. Thanks for the laugh, I enjoyed it very much.

Nomi, er Nolan... I really enjoyed your autobiographical tale.
And yes, my name is David Miller, so we must be related! :)

Last I checked there were 88,000 David Millers in this country, so be happy you are Nolan. Haha!

When I applied to Yale, I received a call that my application was incomplete. The root cause was that they were talking to the wrong applicant - there was another applicant -not only David Miller, but David D. Miller.
Imagine that!

When at UMass Amherst in 1992, I used to get calls for a David Miller, living on another part of campus. He was a flamboyantly gay actor in the drama club, so you can imagine how much fun those phone calls were - and worse - idiots who left voice-mails. My friends and I kept playing one in particular over and over, because it was so ridiculous.

Anyway, thanks for sharing.
Best,
Dave

I guess wherever you went, your reputation - or your name - preceded you! I have to admit, I have purchased some Nolan Miller items myself years ago. lol Now I understand the shortened version of your name in this site. Thanks for sharing!

I have the same problem I don't like my first name Mia, so I tried to avoid it as long as I could. But I have to start like it because in Canada people are lazy retainersð??µ so first name become my defaultð?¦?

I like the name Mia very much, so please do not discard it. I think of Mia as a very sassy, classic female. Thank you for your review comments.

I suppose finding out other people have the same name as you, can be interesting. It is something I've never thought about. Too many humans for that. There are some thing that needs to be edited.

notes:

registering the number under her name. {just} like that, the calls dried up.

- Just

I found the photo of the couple and sure enough this tall slim white man bore the name of Nolan Miller{,} (Poor guy.)

- period

notes:

{, who} just happens to be one of my favorite

-Who

Also, there are not spaces between your paragraphs. You should edit them in.

It surprised me that the name Nolan turned out to be a popular first name.
I actually like the name as it is unique. (imagine your problem if your mom got her way and named you Doris!) What was a strange coincidence was finding the Hollywood name of Nolan Miller and your being in LA.
(I like the Rookie too.) In your younger years, you were one of a kind! (still are!)
My maiden name was a long French-sounding name and I used to hate having to pronounce or spell it. Sometimes now I miss it because it was unique.
Thank you for telling your story.
Mary
