Unfortunately, Miller is a very common name back in the day, and it would have been handed down by a plantation owner or a trader.
I can understand every corner of this. I thought my name was only one, spelt the way it was unlike the Scottish variant, only to find a few...even related.

You wrote very well here, even if setting aside the subject matter. I relate to much of what was said...in an amusing way.

My best wishes.
RG

Thank you my brother. I always place value on your remarks as a measure of earned respect. I am well pleased that you found something in my article to enjoy. I am fairly new at writing non poetic content. I believe that this will aid me when I finally get around to writing the story I truly want to write.

I wouldn't have thought that Nolan was that popular a name. The Lana Turner companion with the same name must have been quite the surprise. I found this story interesting and entertaining.

Thank you. I got a huge thrill watching some of the popular ABC TV shows like Love Boat and Dynasty when the credits would say: Fashions by Nolan Miller. I did not care as much about the fame, I was thinking "Show me the money!"

Thank you for sharing this very interesting story about your name. It is amazing when we Google our own names, how many people we find with the same one. I think Nolan is a nice name.

Ahhh, NO...lan MI...ller, NOMI. This is news to me. I told my wife your moniker stood for NO MIDDLE INITIAL ...Nomi. My former brother-in-law's name is Nolan, so it's still going on.

OMG. I am cursed. There has to be something dark and sinister at work here. It is starting to seem that the whole world will soon be filled with people named Nolan.

This is certainly an interesting story. Names do seem to popular for a while and then die out. Unless, of course, one is named Joseph or Mary. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it.

Dear nomi, It is my personal theory that names run in cycles. I'm thinking back even to Sandra Dee, when she made all those movies in the 60s. In her most famous one, she played a character named Tammy. The song became very famous too, and suddenly we had a million 1st graders, with the name of Tammy in our schools

That is very true, but who the heck made the name Nolan so popular?
I do remember various young women telling me that they liked the name Nolan and that they might name a son if they ever had one, Nolan. Yikes!

You did a good job detailing how you dealt with your name, eventually coming to like it. I enjoyed reading your well thought out composition. Your many examples add to the understanding of your feelings. There's good flow and great imagery.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Thanks Jan. It was at first, a problem or mild annoyance. I now find it amusing.

This is a very well written and at times humorous account of how you experienced your name over time. I'm retired from a couple of jobs, but one was early childhood teacher. As of 2015, there had been several boys by the name of Nolan. My mother named me Lorraine, after a soap-opera character. I've met several people with both my first and last name. Amazing. I enjoyed your story and now understand your FanStory name NOMI. Tell us more stories. This was quite interesting.

Thank you. You may live to regret that invitation. I have lived a very diverse life. My family has gotten bored with all my various adventures, so I guess I may as well bore the rest of the world.

It's interesting how people get their names. My parents gave my brother the first name of Danny; not Daniel, but Danny. Mom said at the time she thought it was a good idea. Not so much now, he hates it and is called Dan, of course. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed reading.

Thank you for reminding me that so many of us have issues surrounding our names and how we got them.

This is a well-written and interesting autobiography. It certainly is hard to believe that a name you loathed for so many reasons as a child, suddenly became so prevalent just at the time you wanted to be recognized for your published work!

I think that is how life works. Be careful of what you dislike or disdain. It might just become vitally important to you later on. Thank you for your comments.
