A great piece promoting the wisdom that can be found in the written word. The shout-out to the preservation of libraries and bookstores resonates well. Nicely presented.

Hello Katharine.
I love to read one liners and quotes. I love to write them too. I have a book of epigrams and one liners that have flowed over the years.
I would much rather read from a book than a computer screen. I go to the local library and buy the used books coming off the shelf. They sell them for .50--$1.00

I used to do that before we couldn't go to the library any more. I really miss it.

I haven't been inside the library for over a year. >sigh<

Hello Katharine :)
I enjoyed reading this one.
Thanks for sharing - you made me laugh, you made me think and you made me say 'aww'.
I agree with your final line. - All three of my kids are avid book readers - they love a 'real' book - books they can hold, turn the pages and get lost inside.
Best wishes, Debra

are you going to put your NaPoWriMo in a binder or something for posterity? I think I'm going to get a skinny 3-ring note book, just for kicks.
-
I hadn?t thought about it, but perhaps I will!
Cool idea 🙂

I'll give you thirty minutes to stop with the compliments. My head is swelling as I write. ;)
You should see all the children's books I have saved for great grandchild. Some were mine when I was little, then my daughter, Katharine's, then my granddaughter, Katya's, now, waiting for next in line.
Many thanks, again, and stay well.
Katharine
this came up again like it hadn't been sent. pardon, if it had.

Amen! And there are so many ways to access libraries today. I can get audiobooks to my cellphone wherever I am. There are websites where we can get the classic works that are not copyrighted for free and we can have them read to us by volunteers. Enjoyed all your wonderful quotes!

I love one-liners. I have a folder in my Documents that I call "Diamond Thoughts" and I collect various sayings as you have portrayed. I usually
post one or two on my profile page. I enjoyed these (please give me your first name),

Great rhyme in this. We definitely need books. It's wonderful when children start out early reading and loving books. It stays with them all their lives. Great quotations. I think your choice of quotations was excellent. H.L. Menken was one of a kind. The quotes from Mark Twain are precious, too. I'm glad you included some from the authors of children's books. judi

Thanks, Judi. When I transferred from Mary Baldwin to the Univ. of Ga in the School of Journalism, we learned a lot about old Menken, and you're right. He was. Thanks for your very nice review.

That's a great poem extolling the value of books. I love all the quotes you have mentioned, especially the ones from Winnie the Pooh. And these words are very impressive: "Books don't need to be replaced
We need them for the human race." I can't imagine not having books to read. Very well done

I can't, either, but the way electronics is going and digital stuff, they probably will be outmoded one of these days.
Thank you for your kind words!

I love this poem!! You were especially creative in this one. My favorite quote is this one:
"Noise proves nothing. Often a hen who has merely laid an egg, cackles as if she had laid an asteroid."
HA HA HA so true! Congratulations - you are almost at the 30 poem mark!
