I live in NY city. The city is dead... theaters are closed, museums are closed, stadiums are closed, restaurants are 50% dine in but fairly empty or max 20% occupied... What a depressing living environment.

Your poem hits the right spot of my pandemic.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your interesting perspective of the piece; I am also a native New Yorker and I wrote this in spring of last year when these images of the dead city were still fresh in my mind. I wanted to capture the sense of a world hollowed out by technology, a world left with only the memories of its emotions and energy. estory

You are right on describing the bleak situation of the pandemic era with empty museums, churches. People are walking their dogs in circles. I have been walking in my neighborhood twice daily. In weekends, we go to parks. Sometimes we ride bicycle to the neighboring Minneapolis, 20 miles round trip today and yesterday.

I like the last two lines.

Great work so deserve a six-star.

Thanks so much for the six star review and all your continueing support. I got my first shot of Pfizer last week, shot two comes later in May, so hopefully soon we can all put this sad and despairing episode behind us. I want to travel again. estory

Oh dear, estory, I think you write this far too well. The last year and a half we have now lived with this pandemic, comes close to what you're describing. Or so it has felt at times, when we've been in full lock down. I'm getting my first jab on Tuesday, but even vaccinated we can't put down our guard. Nobody is safe before the whole world has been vaccinated. Your poem describes, if we relax too soon. Ulla:)))

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your comments supporting the piece. This was written in spring of last year, when these images of New York in the grips of the pandemic seemed so poignant and powerful in my mind. I wanted to create a sense of a world hollowed out by technology, left with only its memories of emotion and energy, and I think these images of the pandemic were perfect for that. I got my first shot of Pfizer last week; shot two comes in another two weeks. Things are improving here; the North Carolina governor is talking about opening things up and dropping the masks after 66% of the population is vaccinated. We're at about 48% now. estory

I'm so glad it's going well for you. I do talk to my brother in Mass every Saturday, but we both agree, that although vaccinated we're not quite out of the woods yet. Ulla:)))

India's really going through hell right now. Hey, I found a show from Denmark on PBS called The Seaside Hotel, sort of a soap opera about all these intertwined characters staying in a seaside hotel in Denmark at the turn of the century. Did you ever watch this? Sort of in the English style of Downton Abbey or Upstairs Downstairs. It was interesting. estory

No, I can't say that I have. I moved from Denmark in 93. I have to tolook it up.

Your portrayal of this pandemic's effect is quite eloquent and conjures much imagery of the way things are and too, the way things were. We can certainly resonate with your picture of our existence.

Thanks so much for your continued support of the story and I think you got what I was trying to do here; I wanted to create a sense of a world hollowed out by technology, left with only its memories of emotion and energy, and I think the images of New York in the grips of the pandemic last spring provided me with the images to do that. estory

Interesting poem about your interpretation of our present life.

I was attracted to your post because I love apocalypse stories and movies. The second part of your poem is beautiful...my favorite...with excellent imagery.

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your mention of that last part of the piece. I think I like the ending too. That haunting, insistant robocall. I wanted to create a sense of a world hollowed out by technology, left with only its memories of emotion and energy, and I think the images of New York in the grips of the pandemic last spring provided me with the symbols to do just that. I am glad it seems to be working. estory

I am coming in at the end it seems...I will find your profile for more. This is bleak and stark...fitting for the portrayal - I love such stories and will be waiting for more of your writing. Very well done!

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on the piece. People have a fascination with suffering I think; partly out of fear of it, probably. Fear of the unknown. This series is based loosely on the book of Revelations and will follow that overall trend. I wanted to depict the apocalypse as something happening here and now, in images we can all recognize. estory

I like this interesting story written in the free verse style poem. I think I have missed the earlier ones. But this is good enough to be a stand-alone work. Are you trying to say that life will go on like in the good old days.no matter what the future tech-world is in store for us? I wish it happens and we lead a simple meaningful life. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your interesting comments on the poem, your perspective of it. I wanted to create a sense of a world hollowed out by technology, left with only its memories of emotion and energy and I think the images of New York in the grips of the pandemic last spring enabled me to do that. This series will basically follow the trend of the book of Revelations. Going through the eye of a needle into a new world through Christ. estory

I don't think I've read any of the rest of this series, but still I can get a feel for it, I think, from this one piece. It feels to me like our current life, during this pandemic. A monotonous, routine, and forlorn life. Well written.

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective on the piece. Read the earlier ones in my port, if you like. I wanted to create a sense of a world emptied out by technology, left with only its memories of emotion and energy. estory

I like this poem. It has the matter-of-fact reality of John Betjeman and uses the images of internal and external emptiness in telling counterpoint. I sometimes think that, even without COVID, society tends towards an almost robotic pointlessness as people give away reality in favour of virtual reality.

This is the first episode of this story, but I already have a feeling that I'm going to want to read the previous parts. I'm intrigued by this subject. Great job!

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your wonderful comments supporting the piece. I am a bit surprised at the popularity of this series, given the dark tone and unsettling subject matter. But I think people have always been fascinated in some way by tales of premonitions of what kind of end they might face. A fear of the unknown, maybe. estory
