I'm running out of 6 stars; thus the 5. Uncle Tom's Cabin is an antislavery novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe, published in book form in 1852. The field slaves often resented the slaves who worked as servants in the slave owners' houses. The field hands considered the servants as traitors. I haven't read the novel, although I have MA in 19th and 20th century American literature plus 19th century British lit. What a shame! I'll read it now, though. The novel was influential in convincing people that slavery is wrong and must be abolished--thus helped to push the country into the civil war. Jeff

Yes, I know what it is. And for Tim's wonderful speech - his pride in his country and the joy and positive feelings ABOUT our country to have been so crudely and UNAMERICANLY treated, is inexcusable and so very typical of the liberals - who, by the way, are anything but.

I confused your readers' ignorance with what I thought was your ignorance. I apologize. I believe that the progressives will soon experience a well- deserved thrashing. It will take awhile. The battle will be long and fierce, but I believe they will lose. If they win, we will lose our country. Within two or three years we will also face 20 to 30 per cent inflation if the 6 trillion dollar bills are passed. That is how the government will pay for all the free stuff. Middle class people with fixed incomes, like me, will become impoverished. Jeff

Jeff, I don't know what to make of this. It sounds like either way, you thought I was ignorant.
reply by Jeff Watkins on 01-May-2021
Not ignorant about every thing. Ignorant about one thing. We are all ignorant about more things than we are knowledgeable about. For example, I was ignorant about your understanding of Uncle Tom's Cabin. So you weren't ignorant, I was ignorant. And now neither one of us is ignorant about that one thing. That's progress.

Hello Katharine,
I enjoyed reading your post. Tim Scott sounds to be an honourable and just man who has a great foundation and understanding of humanity and of the fundamentals of right and wrong.
In respect of those who slurred Mr Scott - shame on them.
Please could you let me know me what the term 'Uncle Tim' means... there's no denying that it sounds snide and sarcastic, but I wondered if there was something else that I might be missing. Thank you :)
Best wishes as always, Debra

this is the definition I got when I Googled, "definition of an Uncle Tom."
a black man considered to be excessively obedient or servile to white people.
a person regarded as betraying their cultural or social allegiance.

I heard him after the presidential speech. He is so admirable to speak up for his faith and for his praying mom! People are much to loyal to their parties instead of truth. I also think that there shouldn't be any changes to the election procedures would keep people from voting by mail. So many people needed to vote by mail due to the pandemic but OR and WA have done it for decades without any issues.

You did a great job with rep sect to this senator that is due. No one should have called him out like they did. Your lines read well with vivid imagery. The picture is perfect.
Thanks for standing up for OUR AMERICA.
Respectfully, Jan

I watched Senator Scott's speech that I had recorded early this evening. It was marvelous and he gave such a spirited delivery. You mention several of the things he brought up in his speech, and it was inspiring to hear how he was raised by a single mother in the home of his grandparents. I liked how he emphasized education, that it was the magic for kids from backgrounds like his. It's so despicable that the democrats are trying to discredit him, but they're probably afraid of his success. I'll probably be writing an article about him, but I'm trying to get a script ready, so it may be a few days. So glad you wrote this. judi

so glad you told me what "they" called him.
Am glad you're going to write a piece, too.
    thanks for your comments!

I hope to have that script finished today, so I can get to work on it tomorrow. Joy Behar, an old white gal, said Scott didn't understand what systemic racism is. Wonder how she got the inside info? judi

Hey Katherine,
Thanks for speaking out on this. I can usually stand about a half hour of the news before I get so angry that I want to throw a shoe through the TV.
I did see part of Tim Scott's message. He's done himself and his family proud. I don't know why it is that in this day and age some have to resort to name calling, put downs, hate speech and all manner of other unprofessional conduct. It there is a problem, lets work together for the good of all of us. We seem to be rushing toward a country that neither we nor the rest of the world will recognize, and it will be a sorry day indeed. Well done gal.

    Thanks, Tom.
He was so full of pride for our country and what it afforded him, and the joy in his face for the opportunity to be a part of it all. It was inspiring - and Lord knows that's been missing lately.
    Thank you for your comments!

I would give you six stars if I had them. Yes, he gave a sterling speech and those who are spouting Racism every chance they get, showed THEIR RACIST colors, loud and clear on Twitter. There is no doubt about it the Democrats are the most RACIST faction in the U.S.A.

that they are, Ralf, and they (for now) have all the power. There must be those democrats who are disenchanted. '22 will tell.
    thanks for all you said!

A wonderful read, yes it is a pity that people put others down, I tend to believe this is jealousy-some just can not push themselves to achieve, and despise those who can, very well written****kahpot
