This is a very sad story and my heart broke in two. It was very well written and a pleasure to read. The tenderness portrayed in it formed a lump in my throat. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Your final statement is so upbeat and uplifting. "Regardless to how dark the day seemed to us, the sun was shinning for him." However, the story leading to that positive outlook, is horrifying. I don't know how a family deals with such a tragedy. I am so sorry that the world will never get to know your grandson or experience his infectious smile as you and your daughter did. May God continue to have mercy and bless your family. Amen.

Thank you, Lorraine. It was a very difficult time and even though it's been eleven years, it was difficult to write. I am glad I could share so people understand horrifying things happen, but in return blessings come too. Thank you for yur kind review. Smiles, Carol

I am sorry for the loss of your grandson. Your story is well written and the reader feels like she is there with you. His life had an impact on many and he sounds like a wonderful person.

Tragedy does strike and nobody understands why or to who it happens. Even though this happened a while ago, I am praying for your family. One heals but never forgets. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us and good luck.

Yes, 2009 is a long time, but on some days it creeps right back to where it started and it's difficult. But we have to have faith that God has a plan and we are here to follow it. Thanks for the review. Smiles, Carol

Carol, this is unbelievable that you would suffer through such a thing twice. Your daughter must have been frantic. I am amazed at your resilience in these circumstances. Yes, bad happens, but over and over?
Here's a hug.

Thanks, Ralf... I could use a hug today. Yes, when I first got the phone call my thought was ...no, it can't happen again, but it did. My daughter found out she had a bad heart valve and she just gave up. She wanted to see her son. So in the end, I lost her too. Smiles, Carol

Your recount of this happening was both hard to read, and easy to read. Meaning, it had a strong writing flow, though the tale brings the reader though tragedy and ache all the same.

I'm not very good at conveying feelings, all I can say, strong writing, effective in stirring the gut wrenching feelings, and connecting with others.

So very sorry for your loss, Carol. I swear if it wasn't for bad luck you would have no luck at all, my friend. A terrible tragedy for sure. My heart sank just reading this story. God bless you. Bob

thanks, Bob... Unfortunately, it is true. As the matriarch of our family, it always falls on my shoulders to pick up the pieces and move forward. Guess that's where a lot of my emotions come from in my writing. Tragedy has struck more often than I have ever written about, but I have been blessed over and over as well. thanks for reading and reviewing. Smiles, Carol

Carol,

Oh, my stars. I don't like it. Take it back. Say it's not so.

I don't want it to be real. So I KNOW you don't want it to be real. I wish we lived closer. I've said that before, but I really mean it. There are so many times I just want to reach out and hug you. Those times when there are no words. Like now. I am so, so, soooo sorry.

I could use a big hug right about now. Thank you! My grandson was a wonderful boy, always helping people, and always smiling. It's still impossible for me to believe that our family lost my son and my grandson...1981 and then 2009. Since then it's 2014, 2017, 2018, 2018, 2019... Life's grand if you don't weaken. Smiles, Carol

Oh my God, this is absolutely heartbreaking. I'm hurting right now for you and your family. It must have been so difficult to put this story in writing, but you did a beautiful job, with pathos mixed with a joy for life.
Excellent writing skills.
All my best,
Linda
