This is just so CUTE!!!
Who knew a bunch of hippo's was a
'bloat?' Not me.
And, considering their size...how appropriate
is that?
I love it!!
Just great,
blessings...

Okay, I am so very glad I chose to read this haiku because it is not only brilliant, it is adorable. I noticed it's not far away from that 26 reviews, and I wanted to help, so it's my reward!

Wonderful, my friend! (And you know I seldom award a six for a small poem!)

This haiku is so cute! I love the playful energy of the hippos in your haiku which is enhanced by the picture you chose! Thank you for defining bloat- your specific word choice was great as well. The last line shows hippos in a new light, in comparison to what we conjure when we think of horses: majesty, strength, playful, and more. Great work!

What an apt word for a group of hippos! I love your joyful Haiku...which is an odd thing to say about those brutes, albeit graceful. The photo is perfect and enhances the vision you created.

Thank you. I think they're beautiful animals in their own way. Certainly can be dangerous.

I like this poem and its illustration. Is a group of hippos really called a bloat? I don't know why they are called water horses. They look nothing like horses and can't be ridden.

I know. Several people have said that. I agree. The word 'hippopotamus' comes from the Greek, meaning water horse. I don't know why, for the life of me. The don't look like horses. hahaha. thanks for reviewing.

You're welcome, Yvette. Maybe the Greeks feel differntly.

Haiku - (hippos)

Hello, my friend,

I love your entry for the haiku club animal group names event. I think a group of hippos called bloat is funny. Good syllables count and connection between animals. Well done!

Love this - love learning about what any group of creatures is called...
You put this together so well - I adore hippos, though they are a terrifying creature to encounter in their habitats. I so adore the use of the word "frolic" - one must truly love the species to consider this cuteness!

People think I'm weird because I say hippos and rhinos are pretty. I think they are. I even think possums are cute. There! You know more about me than you want to, huh? LOL . Thanks for reviewing.

Oh, we are sister-women!! I love every thing except reptiles - if it has legs I love it...ferrets, every critter and elephants - oh yes...

Me, too. I sons always hoped a rhino wouldn't come through my yard or near it. lol. I like turtles, and have quite a few. Pond turtles and box turtles. I also have two baby possums on my porch not. I think they've been orphaned. Also, raccoons come up at night. I love it!

What a unique Haiku! I've learned something new on this site yet again. I had no idea that a group of hippos was a bloat. What an appropriate name though. Personally, I've run into a murder of crows and a smack of jellyfish, but never a bloat of hippos. It was delightful to read. Thank you.

Blessings

Thank you so much for this delightful review. I love crows, and I think it's unkind that they are labeled a murder. It's from all the creepy stuff written about them, I think. They are extremely intelligent and beautiful. I didn't mean to preach. I know you didn't name them that. lol

Here in Alaska, at least in Southeast, there is an abundance of crows and ravens. In fact there are two moities in the Tlingit native culture. Ravens and Eagles. In the old days a member of the raven clan couldn't marry inside the clan. I guess it helped to keep the genes from getting messed up. Anyway, crows are very smart, as are ravens, but they sure make a mess around town.

Your characterization of hippos as "water horses" impersonated effectively. I was unaware that a group of hippos is called a bloat. The image paired with the piece suits it well. Nice job.
