I feel your pain..Some things are so deeply ingrained that it's hard to react differently, even in the extreme situation you describe so well.
I too am law abiding. Or I thought I was until I went to Switzerland on holiday with a friend many years ago,! Almost everything was verboten. Walking on the grass in parks. Crossing the street on foot against the lights ( with nary a car in sight) and the list goes on. Fortunately we were pretty black girls in the era of mini skirts. Even the stodgy Swiss police forgave us our transgressions.
This short write is a powerful entry for the contest.

I agree, sometimes it makes no sense to follow the rules, but I like the story's narrator, am the one in the car, waiting for the light to change. This true flash fiction piece is well structured. Nice job.
