This article, What's in a Name?, is a very interesting rundown on how some of your furry friends got their monikers. Fun.

What an interesting little tale about how and why you named a whole bunch of cats. They all seem appropriate and well reasoned.
for the little dinner -- do you mean diner?

Is the collective noun for a lot of cats a 'catastrophe'? If not, it ought to be surely. I have had a pretty good catastrophe of them as well. The maximum at any one time being seven. It all started with a grey tom at the mill - Dusty Miller of course, then there was a tortoiseshell (I think you call them calicos over your way) her name was Shandy she had two kittens that were carbon copies of her Sian and Dee plus Marmalade a ginger Tom. Dee stayed in Shropshire with my neighbour and Sian and Marmalade moved to West Bromwich with me. Marmalade disappeared, catnapped or killed I never found out what happened to him. Sian moved to Wales with me where were joined by my girl friend's mother's cats when the old lady died. That was when we went up to seven all told.
Then that lot reduced down to one I decided that was enough and I have kept the total down to one always a rescue cat ever since. And Paddy has been joined by Penny whom you know!
Penny was Jenny when she arrived but since mthat was my first wife's name I changed it to Penny. She just thinks I can't pronounce her name properly.

How funny about Penny's name. Sounds like you've had your share of cats, too. Catastrophe is a good word for groups of cats, but it's actually a clowder of cats, which I'm sure you already knew.

What a fun post. You have named them all with love and care for their individual traits. It is so well written, and a pleasure to read. Thanks so much for organising and sharing this.

I've just read Judi's post about how she names her cats. Your inventive cats names made me smile here, I love the Cannonball! A great name for a cat, love Dolly x

I love all your names! They reflect your sense of humor and I won't tell PC that he's named for a diner. He'll always be the Perfect Cat. Now I'm curious why Winkin' got his name changed to Rags. Does he really love rags? Patch has to play with a rag every day.
for the little dinner where (diner?)

Yes, I need to correct that. Rag's name got changed when, for some reason, John started calling him Rags. I think it's because he's shaggy. On his medical records, it's still Winkin'. That's for a wonderful review, and stars!

Hello Yvonne.
You had a large corral of kitties over the years. We have rescued three and I named all of them.
Ralph has informed us there will be no more cats. He claims he is allergic to them. We know he is lying, but he's so cute when he does. It was hard teaching him to talk but now we can get him to shut up.

Hahahaha. That's so funny! I know what you mean. When I ask the cats anything, they lie every time. I can just see in my mind's eye Ralph declaring his allergy. Priceless!

He's pretty headstrong

Such fun to read. I really enjoyed. Cats seem to respond to their names. If they want to, that is. You've certainly had your share of cats, but you always found great names for them. Funny about PC almost being named Pig. It's good he doesn't know that. DOC is a cute name, especially with the meaning behind it. Delightful account of how you named your cats. You didn't have any problem with the selection, either. judi

This is a thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining piece. You have used vivid, specific details to explain the reasons behind the kitties' names. It's obvious that you love and respect these friends!

Thank you so much for reviewing, and for the stars. Yes, I love them very much. Dogs, too, even though I don't have one now. I love all animals. 8-)
