These days are not fun days and to add to that the non-communication one wonders if these people are aware of the anticipation that awaits their word. You would think they would be aware. The families must be saying
"Spare us this further mystery".

true. However, I'm beginning to hear, in some young people, they've gotten so used to NOT being together, and doing things on their own, they just want the piece of paper, and get on with their lives.
    Isn't that sad.

Hello Katharine :)
I enjoyed reading your poem.
I hope they come up with a plan for the graduation soon. It's not fair to keep everyone waiting to find out what, if anything, is happening... you must all be so proud of your granddaughter graduating - it would be so great for you to attend a ceremony - you're right, to have it outdoors would be a really good idea.
Best wishes, Debra

thanks, Debra. She gets back from her fellowship stint in DC on Saturday and and I understand she has a new beau - to use an old fashion term. Am looking forward to meeting him!! He's also graduating from Texas and apparently was in the fellowship bunch.
Pardon the grandmother excitement over this. She's been so busy with school and working she hasn't had one in a long time. She seems really happy. Yes, ma'am, I am proud of her. Thank you again for reading my stuff with all you have to do!!

You did a great job, Poem Lover, with your poem. Your lines read well with great imagery and rhymes. It breaks my heart to know that so many young people are in this situation along with their families who want to share graduation with them.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

This poem fits well in your book's theme...Things I think about. Your thoughts are well expressed as you ponder what your granddaughter's graduation will involve. Nicely presented.

It's getting down to the wire, isn't it? Why couldn't they come to some sort of decision? I know parents and family members like to see their favorite graduate on the big day. Maybe they're waiting for the okay from Dr. Fauci. I think people need some encouragement and incentive to get on with their lives. All the constant worry from President Biden, Dr. Fauci et al is NOT an incentive for people to get vaccinated. I hope their decision is to let those families attend. Excellent thoughts on the situation. judi

Katharine, I agree this Covid is taking away some vital parts of progressing into adulthood. My grandson missed his graduation (high school) and all the dances including prom. How sad to not have those special parts of life that they earned. I hope your granddaughter is luckier. Smiles, Carol

Oh, I'm sorry. That is a shame. The joy and exuberance of graduation, the pictures of smiling, proud faces - the recorded memories and yes, the pomp. Families need a little pomp after four years of paying for college and also for their high school graduates. and the kids need the joy and fun of celebration. They act like they don't mind, but I think they do.

If not now, years down the road they will understand how much those times and memories mean to us all.

Thanks, I know, but us grands will be dead and gone, just like tradition in a lot of things. I just think it's sad.

When I graduated as a mature student back in 1976 the ceremony was, frankly, a big yawn compared with the four year passage to get to that point. Nothing can take away your granddaughter's achievement and whether she receives her parchment scroll from the hands of a celebrity or through the post will make no difference. She is a graduate! Very well done, girl.

I am partial to tradition. The ceremony is probably more for the parents, who deserve to see a little pomp, I think. I don't care about any celebrity, it would be someone from the college, and in the long run, no, it wouldn't make any difference, but it's recorded memories. Also a jubilant occasion - a shame to miss.
However, good for you for your accomplishment later in life! very admirable! Thanks for your comments.

It is such a pity that these pupils have missed out on graduating with all the pomp and ceremony. My granddaughter missed her prom night, spent a fortunate on the dress and never wore it, my heart bleeds for these students just starting out and having their wings clipped like this. I enjoyed your well rhymed write and I wish you Granddaughter lots of luck for her future, love Dolly x

Great poem gal. This is really a tragic scenario for those kids. To go through all the work, all the years of sacrifice and not to be able to enjoy a well deserved day in the sun? It's ridiculous. This pandemic or the politicians who are exploiting this pandemic, have ruined jobs, livelihoods, the education system, the financial system and our who system of government. Thanks for putting a bit of humor on a tragic situation. I hope she graduates with all the accolades due her. Blessings.

Tom

Thank you, Tom. I surely agree with all you said. Not being able to celebrate success - have a little pomp and glory, and fun, and recorded memories. Shame on the colleges. Parents deserve it, too, I think. And anyway, it seems like more and more of tradition is being done away with. Sad.
Thanks for your very nice comments.
