Oh Yes, yes. yes...Sally, Peter , Paul, and Mary...you just won my heart...in the top 5 sweet girl...love listening to them on my trips...boy can they harmonize...a lot of memories in this one my sweet friend...

Oh definitely 500 miles is a classic. Peter, Paul and Mary performed so many greats and definitely in that era.
I am thoroughly enjoying your Juke Box Hits and I'd bet you have requests a mile long, that you might even have to write another top 50!

Thank you, Sally. :) I had forgotten who played, "I'm Leaving on a jet plane, I don't know when I'll be back again." I recall telling my lady those words as I was leaving overseas. But no problem, "A Dear John" came by and visited me. :( thanks for sharing.

An excellent choice for #48. I, too, have always loved Peter, Paul, and Mary. They go way back to the early 60's. The three songs that mean the most to me are "Right Field", "Garden Song", and "A Soalin".

"Right Field" is a classic song echoing simplistic innocence. I introduced it to my working partner in the Parts department at Moosehead Breweries. John was a huge baseball fan, and coached a girls' softball team for many years. He loved it!
I used Garden Song in a few of my Gospel concerts back in the late 80's and early 90's. The song always had a religious connotation for me about getting out there and spreading the Word, being a missionary either abroad or in your own neighborhood. The crow was the devil, "watching hungrily from his perch in yonder tree". He's always looking for an opportunity to stifle the work we do for God.
It was so nice to find out that Noel Paul Stookey was a Christian. He made an album, "Wait'll You Hear This", (which I bought), with the Bodyworks Band. Along with "Garden Song", I used others off this album in my concerts, "Be Ye Glad", "Rejoice", "Building Block", "Turn It Over", and "Not As We Are". The girl who wrote and sang "Not As We Are", Karla Thibodeau, died at the age of 57. Here is part of her obituary...
"Karla Thibodeau Chamberlain died on Father's Day, June 19, 2011, with her husband, Craig, at her side. Karla was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Lincoln, and grew up in Mattawamkeag. She was the oldest daughter of Merton and Pauline Thibodeau.
Karla was born a singer and started performing at age 5. She sang with Dick Curless and Buck Owens as a young girl. She sang throughout high school and in the 1970s Karla moved to the Bangor area, where she was lead vocalist with several popular bands. She toured across the U.S., London and Australia, with Noel "Paul" Stookey and Bodyworks band. A song Karla wrote with Jay Leon, "Made in the Image," was performed with Bodyworks and the video can be viewed on YouTube. In 1980, Karla moved to Southern California and became the worship leader at Malibu Christian Fellowship. Karla found her favorite spot on Earth living in a little cottage on the beach near the church. Karla possessed an incredible sense of humor, knew the value of friendship and had a personal relationship with God. She was compassionate and generous, and always available to pray or help her friends and often strangers."
Of course, Peter Paul & Mary sang "A Soalin" in their 1988 Holiday Concert.... perfect harmony of voices and guitars. Poor Mary, she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2004. A bone marrow transplant in 2005 gave her brief remission, but she died on September 16th of 2009 at the age of 72.
