-This chapter certainly took an
unexpected turn, both literally
and figuratively.
-I was expecting to learn about
Jack in Africa, and the farm at home.
-You have used good descriptive
detail to show what happened with
the plane and the remaining two men.
-Interesting that Brucker came upon
the weir, but opted not to try crossing-
smart on his part.
-The thoughts of the pilot at the
conclusion are very interesting.

PANTYGYNT:

Yes, war, like most everything else, has two sides. My dad
fought in WWII so this part of your story is particularly intriguing to me. It would seem the Germans have landed on Jack's family's land. This should get very interesting.

The downed Enemy plane crashed near the Bache family's farm, in the vicinity of the broken weir and the abandoned mill. The last para affected me very much because I am basically anti war.The person thinking that war was all glory and destruction and not the current state of inevitable captivity... And the last line..in the hands of a race he had been taught to despise..
That somebody teaches one to hate and despise ..is the start of many wars..
Nothing has changed. Now some other race or races are being taught to hate.
We will never learn any lessons from history ..WIll we?
Sorry for that emotional outburst.

hi

interesting take on the the German side...
I have one thought though...most of those who fought were not loyal Nazis. The Nazis were mostly in the high command. Those poor bast###s fighting, were consripted, with family memebers back home, with the fear of what would happen to them if they did not fight...And many were like many young men, eager for adventure without the life experience to know what hell adventure can be,..

Oh well, that of course is MHO...and it is your story...and well written one at that:-)

I don't usually read historical fiction (I believe this is what this is), but your writing enticed me. Your detail and description of everything drew me in, and before I knew it I had finished this small part of the story. I can't wait to read more of your writing!

Thank you so much for this six-star review. If I am converting an unbeliever, I must be doing something right. Lol.

Not only are you write a good fiction novel, but taking us through history. That's some good writing. I am enjoying reading and reminding me of the history I learned in school and stories my parents told me.

Fascinating look at the enemy, from inside Allied territory -- and where have they crash landed, but in the vicinity of our favorite family, the Baches, and the mill, which is being put out of service? Will it yet serve some unforeseen purpose, to friends or enemies, and what will be the outcome? This is a very interesting, and unexpected development. Very creative and well written! Of course, I don't know much German, but I'll have to trust you that "ist gut." I like the way you give us just enough German language to make it believable, and translate the rest into English.

Oh yes, a very much unforeseen purpose. It may appear as a wartime interlude but it will turn out to be much more important than that. Thank you so much for the six stars and these remarks, especially those about the German language bits.. The German language was included to add authenticity. It does not 'carry' the story in any developmental way.

You're very welcome, Jim. Everything you said makes sense. I'm looking forward to learning more about how this chapter fits in with the rest of the story. God bless you. - Mary Kay

With the downing of the German plane we get a bit of what they felt and are facing, in the dark of an, unknown to them, land. Now they have to get into Tommy's Mill. Interesting chapter, enjoyed it.

Came off very real. I don't speak German, but I sensed the accuracy of the dialog. You could feel their fear and aloneness. Even wounded, the pilot kept the important papers, even as he thought he might be dying.

Many thanks for reading and reviewing this post. I am pleased it came over as being real. The German phrases are there tobenhance that feeling amd d not develop the story . I am pleased they worked like that for you.

I understood at least one line of your German language. It was 'Ja, das ist gut,' (Yes, That is good. LOL. Mybe I also understood 'in order' and 'Kaput' too! LOL Well so we have a couple of German soldiers approaching the vacant Mill in hopes of finding shelter there. Interesting! Well done, Jim. Exciting! Looking forward to the nest chapter. Nancy:)

Thank you so much for these six stars. That you did not understand some of the German does not matter in the least. The language is there to create the image rather than advance the story.
