This is a beautiful pink flower that illustrates the outcome of the planting in the poem. I don't know if the monk knows what he is talking about. I thought the seed had to be made into a hybrid for a pink flower to happen.
Good luck, keep writing and stay healthy.

Thanks, Joan. I have no idea how to breed lotuses (loti?). What I do know is true, is it's based on a lecture my dad gave me.

You're welcome, Aiona. I don't no either. I just got this info from watching a show where the main character ran a green house and was trying to breed a winning new rose.

Interesting! Is it true. You start with a "monk" which got my attention with the picture of the lotus flower. It is said that when Buddha was a baby when he walked, a lotus flower bloomed in each footstep. But I like your poem's idea - in a community we all affect one another. Best wishes in the contest!

I don't know if it's true in the literal sense. It's a parable-like thing, my dad told me.

I enjoyed this naani like poem. It's a thought provoking parable with beautiful artwork.
It's indeed hard to hold on to one's integrity when close companions and/or family espouse different views.
Good luck in the contest

You got me Googling "naani." And now I want to see the movie Naani (2004). But also, yeah, I see how it is "naani-like." I could easily make it into one I suppose. Thanks for the informative review!

You're welcome. Check out Poetry Dances ( click on the home icon and you'll find it on the drop-down list) for examples of naani poems.

I think the old monk has a lesson to teach his students, don't you? If it's true there's something profound going on in the alchemy of the monk's botany. Any way you look at it, Aiona, you've created a whopping 20-word poem, complete with rhyming lines and all. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks, Jay. Yeah, I don't know if the literal interpretation of the poem is true. It may just be an attempt at a metaphor. It's based on something my dad told me.

Congratulations on this intriguing piece. That photo of a lotus is exceptional, and complements your poem well. I've recently learned that plants are a lot more social then I was led to believe in high school biology back in the day. Good luck with the competition!
