This was cute/funny. I don't think I have ever fell asleep writing, reading is different. Well, I may have a time or two in class when I was in high school lol. Didn't have appreciation for words on paper then...
Great Read

then you probably get enough sleep. For some reason I wake up many times during the night. Anyway, I appreciate your nice comments. Thanks.

I have dozed off a couple of times while sitting before the computer, but never deleted anything, thank goodness. Make sure you have that text saved! Entertaining account that people can relate to. I enjoyed the humor and great rhyme. judi

thanks, Judi. Though I did delete some, I think you know, from reading a lot of my stuff, that sometimes (for hopefully humorous effect) I tend to exaggerate just a tad ;)
-
You're very welcome. Oh, yes, we do need to exaggerate just a tiny bit. judi

Katharine,
hahahahahahaha I know!!! I wrote something the other night in bed and added it to my Word doc on my phone - which is attached by OneDrive to my computer. So, the idea is that as I write on either document, the other one updates, right? Oh, yeah...
So, I had this brilliant idea (of course, that's my story) and grabbed my phone and tapped it out. My eldest granddaughter was here and I was having to stretch over her to do all this - reach my phone and all.
Well, the next morning I couldn't remember the poem but knew I had written something SPECTACULAR. But - it was nowhere to be found. NOWHERE. Not in any previous versions of the doc - not in recycle bin. It was POOF! gone.
So I just casually said to Harper, 'There's no way in the world you remember what my poem was about last night, right?'
But she DID! Almost word for word for the first couple of lines. BLESS HER HEART! So without knowing it, I had a BACK-UP back-up plan. hahaha

well, bless her heart is right! Thanks heavens for smart grandkids. I wish mine lived here to help me with stuff. She'd have everything running in 5 seconds. Anyway, good for her. SO... where is your poem? :)
Comment from Raffaelina Lowcock
Me too! In bed, the lines of poems flash through my mind and I wonder if I'll remember them when I awake.
But at least you got a poem written, even though you fell asleep. I'm sure it will all come back to you soon.

thanks, Ralf, but I doubt it. I think my memory and I have parted company. Discouraging!

Hey! Don't give up.

Well this is just delightful!!
I love the phrase 'thunk up'...
just too cute!
I never have this problem because
I still use pen and paper, ha ha.
Old fashioned...but a softer pillow!
Blessings...

Comment from Begin Again
Oh yes, asleep at the keyboard while trying to finish that last bit of a story. And then waking at 3am, because you thought of something in a dream and your fingers must type it before you forget. Writer's Woe! I remember when I first started on a computer and was making a breakfast menu for my business. Suddenly the banana that I had inserted vanished.... I searched and searched to no avail. My husband always joked (for years) wanting to know if anyone had seen a yellow banana floating in cyberspace. Loved your poem. It's spot, for sure. Smiles - Carol

you inserted a banana in your computer?? am assuming you mean the word - in your menu. :)A banana in Cyberspace would make a good story! you should write it.
-
My computer skills were nil, but my dollars were far less so I tried to save money by making my own menu. Using print shop I began by using fruit --- except I lost the banana and Kept telling my husband I didn't know where it went. Lost in space! Smiles - Carol

Oh, my dear, I think we have the same problem. I fall asleep half-a-dozen times during my afternoon Fanstory reading/reviewing stints. And I love what I'm doing. But anyway, you wrote a clever poem, Katharine. You captured the frustration but kept a balanced sense of humor--in fact, that's where you shine.

thanks, Jay! Lyenochka suggested I get a laptop so I could write in bed and if I got sleepy...
I HAVE a laptop, but habit prevails. Still at my desk. I love what I'm doing, too. Have practically grown to this chair.
Thanks for your neat review and comment. I really appreciate both!

Hello Katharine :)
I really enjoyed reading your poem.
The meter is even and your excellent use of enjambment also aids the flow of the poem.
You have my sympathy - to accidentally delete your 'most brilliant thoughts' by crashing out on the keyboard is a tragedy!
Love your humour.
Best wishes, Debra :)

Well, Miss Debra, you smart thing, you just taught me a new word. If I had that in English class, I don't remember it. Just looked it up and now understand. Your remarks are very kind. Many thanks!!!

Debra, I wanted to give you recognition and thumbs-up for the new word but I clicked the wrong thing and it won't let me go back. I apologize! Am really sorry. Seems my fingers delete when I'm wide awake.

ha ha ha! This is very clever! And I can relate to writing something wonderful only to hit a wrong key and see it all disappear and not even come back with control-Z. Really frustrating! It's this new keyboard on my laptop.
Anyway, back to your poem! I enjoyed it very much - it was very well done and creative.
Thanks for sharing!

Susan! Control-Z??? you can get stuff back?
How have I not known that all these years? Bless you! Have written it down.
Thanks for that and for your other comments!
-
ha ha! Hitting the control key and Z on the keyboard will sometimes bring it back (it's the keyboard equivalent to "undo") Hope it helps!
-
me, too. thanks again.
Comment from T B Botts
Well done! This was really funny. I can't imagine anyone falling asleep on the key board, but no doubt it could happen. I have trouble enough sleeping on a mattress and pillow. I wonder how often people have lost their grand ideas because of a misplaced finger or some other unfortunate situation. I know I've sent things into cyber space that I'll never recover. I just hope I don't seem them in some distant future with great accolades given to someone else. Have a great day.

laughing. Hadn't thought of that - others reaping rewards from my "sleep-deletes".
Actually, what is even funnier, my head is not down on the computer, but just hanging down. I'm still sitting here with fingers on the keyboard. pitiful. :)
Thank you for the neat comments.
You have a great day, too.
