I think poetry, like other forms of writing will always reflect the age in which it is written even a piece ostensibly not connected with the news such as an ode to daffodils will usually appear in spring time. It is hard if not impossible to divorce oneself from the news however unpalatable tha may be.
But I do agree, when the 'news' becomes the 'olds' and overstays its welcome then we all yearn for something else.

Yeah, I know we can't away from it. I just wish folks would try to go at it a little more poetically rather than the same thing over and over. But maybe that's just me. Lol. Thank you for the great review and stars, friend. I hope everything is well in your corner of the world. Have a good one.

Yes I do agree with you to a certain extent and know where you're coming from. A very well written peice but I wouldn't call it fun or any of the other poems that I've read in this catagory. Good luck in the competition. Jen.

Dear Dragon, do not feel badly, you were not the only poet to have a theme that was grim and gritty, but something that he felt, needed to be said. I guess that is what you have done here. I think your gripe, is a legitimate one.

It didn't have to be fun fun fun. It just had to be fun for you to write. I believe there is room for all types of poetry, it's a great forum for expressing ideas and yes, opinions. I like Shakespeare and Poe as well and read thier work often. Best of luck in the contest. :)

Hey, Tommy, hello. Thank you so much for the fantastic review and the giant sixer, friend. Yes, we've all written stuff that's on the news, and always will. What really set this one off was another piece on masks. If they want to come up with something different and original about masks, I'm all for it. But if it's just the same thing we've read a couple hundred times over, I'm not that interested anymore. Lol. I really appreciate the huge sixer, T. I'm glad you liked my little rant. This is a poem that serves to remind the reader that really poetry that is written more as a reaction to bad news is not nearly as poetic as that which comes from purer motives. Favorite stanza is the third one, and how I appreciate the 'w' alliteration in 'weep while they whine.'
