I enjoyed the sentiment here and I just think this poem would work so much better if the word (poetry) was (poet). This is just my suggestion, love Dolly x

Thank you for the great review, Dolly. Yes, I guess 'poet' would work in a lot of places. I really appreciate the generous stars. I'm glad you liked my little rant.

DS,

Oh.

My.

Stars.

Sing it, my sister!!!! You have stolen the words from my heart and put them on page for all to read -- oh, please - and take a note from, maybe????? If this poem doesn't WIN the contest (which it should) then it must place high, high, high enough for you to get a nosebleed.

Thanks for the smile and comradeship. Hugs-

Wonderful work Skulls. I agree with your sentiments poetry does get stagnant and stale when all people do is talk about how the whole earth is going to Hell. Thought the line " Bull crap news" was very funny especially since the media exaggerates everything. Keep up the amazing writing.

I have to say that I found this poem quite interesting. You have said a lot about what is going on in the news, and it sure isn't fun.
Yes, I agree; we need more poetry. I like your style and your message.
It's a great idea you have here and a wonderful entry for the contest.
Best of luck.

This poem, Where Poetry Waned, notes the decline in spiritual and romantic verse for the retelling of the decay of western civilization in slant rhyme and chaotic meter.

I really appreciate your poem. I keep tapping Skip It, because I don't want to read one more thing about COVID. I also tire of haiku, broken hearts, butterflies, flowers and other things. Not all of us can be true poets, but I really appreciate the ones that have something to say that hasn't been said a thousand times already, even if they doesn't meet all the rules. I've always been a function-over-form person. Your poem doesn't require making a choice, because it has both in equal measure.

Any lover of poetry can only agree: we don't need yet another rerun of the news when we engage in poetry. Not that it must be all cake and ice cream, but a little lightness doesn't harm.
This is an excellent rant-like poem, well done!

Poetry can be a mixture of all these things. From what you say, you seem to be a romantic until you mention Poe. Poe's poetry was dark. Even his love poems were about his loss of love. I think covid needs to be written about so we can mourn what we loss and see hope for the future. But some do harp on it too much.
Good luck with the prompt
Keep writing
Joan

Thank you for the great review, Joan. Yeah, we've all written our share of what we see on the news. It's just getting old reading about masks and distancing. I was really just going at the contest at a different angle than usual. I appreciate the generous stars, J. Thank you again.

This poem is well written. it shares the option of the author about poetry. I agree with you, that poetry of the olden days to a certain degree is much better than todays. ...

Times have changed... poetry rules and standard may remain the same but contents change.

Thanks for sharing.

You seem so sad about it. But most stories, both prose and poetry is inspired by the world around the artist. It has always been that way. You know. Art reflects life, and sometime we bring our art to life. There are still neutral prompts, just look at this one and what it has inspired in you.

Thank you for the great review, lancellot. Yes, we get inspiration from everywhere. I just tire of the masks and social distancing pieces. That's all that really inspired this one. Lol. Have a good one, L.
