Wow, your words really hit home! We all so often take things for granted - our health, our homes, possessions, family, etc. but until one sees how fragile everything is, we don't think about it.
Thank you for sharing! Your words will stick with me today.

Thanks, Susan.
She's a brave gal. I need to do something for her - make cookies, something.

Hi Katharine :)
Poor Angel.... I hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel for her.
It is sad - sometimes it takes someone else's troubles to put our own into perspective. We have many blessings to count and we so often fail to.
I enjoyed reading your poem.
Best wishes as always, Debra

Excellent poem. I often do the same thing. Sometimes I find myself even feeling a little sorry for myself the way things are, which I dislike myself for afterward, but when I find someone with problems way worse than mine, it really puts things in perspective and makes me think about what's ahead for me or for people that I love. Very good poem.

Thanks so much! I really like and appreciate your comments.
I imagine your job at the nursing home isn't exactly the most cheerful place to be - not saying you don't like it, but that it could be depressing. And I worry, too, everyday about what's going on.
Our future went from sunny and positive to disaster in a few short months.

The nursing home has been very depressing with Covid as the residents have not seen their family members for a year. We work hard at cheering them up. I pray for America.
-
Families ought to get together and go and demand to see their loved ones. What could "they" do, put them in jail?

This story has its sad part i.e. The Mail delivery girl has brain trauma... The good part is that Kate realizes she should improve her life style to live a more meaningful like.
I like the story of this poem.
Thanks for sharing.

I am so sorry to read about the struggles of your mail girl, but it does make you realize that we all face things that are less than ideal and should be thankful for our blessings. Some people, like the mail girl deal with their issues with a smile. Others grumble. Thanks for telling the mail girl's story.

It's all good. No need to apologize. This is turning into a very interesting book as you record your thoughts. The journal-like poetry is captivating.
Keep it up!

I am jarred practically every day by suffering, death, and violence--and the threat of so much more that I feel like the whole world could drown in it. Prepare for it--yes, but don't let that preparation steal from the gift of your life. Jeff

Jeff, just read your bio, and a 6 from you is mighty special. Thank you!
I agree, I hardly recognize our country in these past few months -politically, and for over a year with the loss of lives, businesses, etc due to Covid and lockdowns. I have never before felt such fear for our country, our way of life.

I don't know if the picture is of your mail carrier or not, but I'm so sorry to hear. I'm saying a prayer for full healing for her. I'm so glad you shared and the message is important for all of us. We never know when He will call us!

Helen, how kind of you. I will tell her.

The lack of rhyming doesn't seem to detract from this poem, it's just the line lengths that perhaps you could take a quick look at. Otherwise it is a very strong poem, with an excellent story-line. The sadness and trauma come across very well.

What a terrible break for the young woman. Brain tumor certainly sounds like bad news. So true. Hearing a story like that certainly makes you stop and appreciate what you've got and make the most of the time we're allotted. Beautifully expressed. I like that you have your own voice and stick to it. judi
