I enjoyed this unique story which also works in a metaphorical sense to life, although I'm not sure if that was your original intention. Honest opinion: I think it should read as waves instead of wave, although I get you were rhyming with brave. Or a gentle wave sounds better to me.

Very well written! You told a nice story. Grabs the readers attention. Love the ending lines especially since it's repeat of the beginning! Brings it together. Thank you for sharing with us all.

Love this. The poet sings a song of destiny and the tales of yesteryear. Most assuredly is it received by those who knows the trail of life.
I find no fault and compliment the poet for a job well done.
My blessings to you. I am out of six but it deserves more.

I love this poem. It was a joy to read. Excellent rhyme and rhythm and also the way you wrote it in dialect. I wish you lots of luck in the competition. Best wishes. Jen.

This is a fine poem, as you have captured the journey through life of one of these sea-men, looking to fulfil his dreams, but based on the lies of others, and in the end he looks back without regret. Best wishes for the contest.

This reminded me of a Kingston Trio song 'Go to Sea Once More', but that was just a song lyric. This is a poem, and one that follows a sophisticated pattern of linking stanzas. I thought this worth more than a mere five stars but alas, it is Saturday and I have none left in my locker.

I enjoyed your poem with the perfect artwork to go along with it. Thanks for the notes on the form and meter. "I watched the sea roll in with gentle wave,/It whispered come with me if ye be brave." Great closing lines.

I wonderful composition which resonates with me. My father was in the Royal Navy and sailing was my hobby for many years. Not that we ever experienced anything like your well-weathered chap did of course.

That was a brilliant poem, written with perfect rhyme and rhythm. If you ask any seaman would he do it again, regardless of how hard the life is, I doubt you would find one who would say no. The sea is in the blood of seamen, you can't get away from it. Most men in my family were sailors and they hated it when they had to retire. I loved this poem, dear SATP, and I wish you the very best of luck! :)) Sandra xxx

Thank you so much! I have an affinity with 'old salts,' so much that I wonder if I was one in a former life. lol. Maybe it's just in my DNA as being Scots and Welsh is.
