Attack of the Chickens
Chickens seem innocent enough, but are they?24 total reviews

I don't think I'll go for chicken any more. Only artificial frozen ones, they aren't real!!! Lol. I often wonder what would happen if animals and insects rose up and attacked us, what would happen. Let an ant grow a few more inches, we wouldn't survive five minutes. On that cheerful thought, well done on your killer chicken story! It's a really excellent dribble flash for the contest. Good luck! :)) Sandra xx

Thank you Sandra. I'm glad I don't live in Australia where so many killers insects and other life forms live. The box jelly fish, jumping jack ants, some killer spiders. Here in Alaska, I only have to worry about bears and moose. Much safer. Have a great day.

This short short reminded me a lot of the Alfred Hitchcock movie " The Birds". I think that if chicken, cows and pigs had their way, they would take revenge, which reminds me of the book: Animal Farm by Orwell.

Thanks for the review. Someone else mentioned The Birds as well. I was just a boy when I saw it with my brother. For some unknown reason I started laughing when the kids were running down the hill. My brother was mortified. I remember Animal Farm as well. The way politicians are acting now is very much like the book- the part of the pigs being played by them.

I once saw a Stephen King interview where he said he takes ordinary situations and tries to make them scary. This is exactly what you have done here...taken an innocent chicken and made it attack. Great piece for the contest. Best wishes.

Thanks so much. I never know what I'm going to write about until it happens, and it surprises even me.

This was a unique premise for a story. You made the most of your Dribble entry with a little intrigue and anxiety. Best of luck in the contest.

Thanks so much Linda. I never know what I'm going to write about when the opportunity arises. I do love the flash fiction though. Have a great day. Thanks for commenting.

I must admit, I've thought of the boogeymen and the thought that nature will bring storms and horrid floods and firs, and even killer tomatoes invading the cities...but killer chooks...never. Beautifully written, good luck...you deserve it...I think!?!? Blessings Roy

Thanks Roy! You made me laugh with the question at the end. I've never worried about killer tomatoes, but rabid chickens, now that's something to fear. Have a great day.

Good job.

"Attack of the Chickens" has the sound of being the beginning of a much longer story. For so many people the raising of chickens for the purpose of having fresh eggs is common for out-of-town residents and the subject is good in stories.

I was actually trying to download a picture of my adult daughter wearing a chicken hat, but I couldn't get it to download, so I settled for some chickens digging in her yard. They were the neighbors and she wasn't happy.

This is the most hilarious thing I've read in a while!
Unfortunately, our poor chickens are going to continue to be eaten.
My neighbors chickens were all poisoned a few days ago!
Why would someone do something so awful? Did they perchance read your story? LOL
I used to love when they would all wander over to our back yard; they were so pretty, pecking away at who knows what. It was funny how they would all scatter when my old, barely-moving dog would wander outside.
Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for the review. I don't know why anyone would poison a bunch of chickens, but I guess if they were where they didn't belong and were digging up a garden or something... who knows? Take care.

Hello Tom. Very good dribble fiction here. Brilliant in so many ways. May give you just one suggestion? change this accordingly:
"They are out for blood. What IS that sound outside? Scratching?"
Good luck with it. I think you may have the winner. Bob

Having been chased all over the yard by an irate rooster when I was a kid,
I can relate to the idea of fearing chickens! Your dribble flash is well-written and creative.

Thanks so much Janice,
I don't think I've ever been chased by a chicken, but I have been chased by a brown bear here in Alaska and an alligator down the Everglades once. It wanted my bass. Geese can be pretty ill-tempered as well. Blessings.

See, you've only been chased by a gator and a bear. I've been chased by a rooster! LOL!

I'm sure it was a terrifying experience! Everything is relative. How funny!

You read my poem and so I thought to look you up in Alaska. I agree that one day the tables will be turned and we might be a chicken's dinner!
I saw a doco on Alaska and the ice is melting at a fast rate. I bet your winters are warmer just like ours. I am in Queensland, Aust. and it is so hot for autumn. Blessings, Kay XX

Hello Kay,
Thanks so much for the review. I would caution you not to believe everything you read or hear, especially in the news. No, no melting going on here, at least not this year. It's the tenth of April and there is about a foot of snow on the ground. When I took the dog out it was 14 degrees F. Pretty chilly still. Down in Southeast Alaska where I was until last fall, they have had non-stop snow and rain for months. I doubt that it will reach the record snow fall of eight or nine years ago when we had 23 feet, but who knows. Thanks for the kind review. I hope that it doesn't get too hot for you. God bless.

Hello Tom, I was watching a doco of the famous ice skaters, Torvill and Dean who danced Bolero. They had to really travel from south to north to find ice thick enough to skate on. I do know the glaciers are melting in NZ and we have the Humpback whales here to play in our warm waters and calve. So sad what global warming is doing. Blessings up there from down here at the bottom of the world! Kay XX
