I've often said "some gave their lives some gave their minds, some their sobriety and some of their limbs.
One of my dear classmates gave his life. Another gave his mind and another, his sobriety. I'm sad for the losses your brother has experienced and that you have experienced because of his losses. A strong tribute to them all in particularly to your brother.

I know my brother was just one of thousands of veterans that experienced the horrors of war and used alcohol to drown those memories. I thank God he got the help he needed. It is great having John home.

The contest announcement says: The topic for this contest is: Past Lives. Write a story about a character who has a deja vu experience. He or she must recall a previous life.

I believe you have this story entered in the wrong contest. According to these rules, the main character of the story has to have lived a past life and he must recall the past life in his present life. That's what a déjà vu experience means.

I see you did re-post in a category that fit your story, which was well told. I'm an Army veteran (Vietnam era). That was such a long time ago, but some scars never heal. Sounds like your brother is doing fine. Great to hear. Hoorah!

Your story has definitely touched me, as there are tears rolling down my cheeks. I am an army national guard veteran, and I can relate to the camaraderie that soldiers form with each other, but I can not imagine what active duty combat does to a person. The story is important. It is powerful.

For your review, there are some type a graphical errors and grammar mistakes, but after reading this, they don't mean very much to me. You might want to reread and look for them. I just can't do it right now. Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm glad that you and your brother have begun to become brothers again. Thank you, and thanks to your brother. For your sacrifices. Love and hugs.

Thank you for the kind words. I just spoke with John last night for over an hour. Half of it was just laughing. It is good having him back!
