AMEN!! Thank you for sharing this Scriptural truth! So many people confuse patriotism for Christianity. It's not so. Christ is our King and He should have preeminence!

Thank you. It is encouraging to read so many comments that are in agreement on this vital point. As important as patriotism is, it must never take a dominant place over true religion.

I totally agree with you "patriotism is not religion."

You are right: All regions do not have a flag attached to it. People should pray for peace, not win or loss on hate, racism and riot.

All countries should cooperate with each other to lift the poverty in this world, not to fight for power.

Thanks for sharing.

You've got conviction, and you've got lots of faith. Patriotism can cost plenty of lives. Atrocities have happened in the name of a country and its flag, so I agree with you there, my friend. I also remember learning about the bloody Crusades, which were driven by a religious faction, that ruled the world for a time. There were also so-called witches, who were burned alive, due to religious persecution in our country, as well as other European countries. Yet, still, you make an excellent point, in our current situation, especially. Let us hope that many readers discuss your poem, and come up with some good answers, to help solve this dilemma!
Take care,
Jesse

Thank you Jesse. I think that maybe I should have included the thought that not all religion is true religion. False religion has done probably more harm and damage than patriotism ever could.

Yes, you make an excellent point. Religion can be false, just as patriotism can be.
Enjoy the new month of April, my friend!

You are absolutely right. Nationalism, or patriotism is very divisive, often setting people against each other where the only desire is to increase, wealth, territory or prestige. God has faithful believers in all countries, who are to love each other as brothers and sisters, and in so doing should witness to all the unity to be found in Jesus. Great poem, very well written.

Thank you Wendy. I am very much encouraged that of all the responses, there have not been one negative one. This gives me much hope for our community. We just may be an enlightened group after all. :).

Well done! I loved this poem. It's encouraging to know that so many people who are on this site are believers. I do wish there was more patriotism in this country, but as you mentioned, it shouldn't take the place of a relationship with the Lord.

Thank you. I am also surprised and encouraged by the number of people of faith who have accepted my words without rancor, hatred, or denial.

Great and clarifying writing of human feelings!! Your words are like a beacon of light among so much confusion today in which values are mixed with simple trends. You also considered our internal sensations and how devil leave his tail in our thoughts for us to go away from the right, calm highway. Great Picture and comments below your writing! Thanks for sharing!!

Lovely!
This needs to be required reading for every school child in the country. With social media, we have created a toxic culture that delights in division and seeks to find differences between people, instead of celebrating what makes us all the same. You have shown the path to unity. I salute you!

On a technical note: I would have preferred the line "Provided we do things in God's way." as "Provided we do things God's way."
It just sounds better to me.
Keep producing quality work!

Thank you so much. I pondered over the right terminology to use, I probably chose wrongly.

I do believe that God is in charge of everything, he decides who Caesar will be and just how much power he or she will have. Politics, patriotism and religion are all man made.

Such a well written reminder that our first allegiance and loyalty needs to be to God. To God who reigns sovereign over al of mankind, including citizens of every nation. I like all the flags which to me symbolize all nations under God.

Well-stated poem. Patriotism is not a religion, unfortunately, it is often treated as such and has done much damage in history. Patriotism with a strong religious foundation can give a nation a strong conscience.
My only thought is that it also needs to be balanced. There are countries where religious leaders are intolerant and cruel to non-believers.
Good job in producing a well-written work that is ones pause to think.

Mary

Thank you Mary. While it was never my intent to belittle patriotism, I also wanted to point out that with some people it can get out of hand.

I did not think that you did belittle patriotism. it is a thoughtful piece.
