Very well written chapter, with excellent detail about the Bache twins who are both highly intelligent and talented at the tender age of twelve. It also provides a great explanation of the lambing practices at this farm, which are important to its life and livelihood. I didn't find any errors and enjoyed reading it, as always.

Jim,
Lovely job. Looks like a chapter that's laying the groundwork for story to come. I'm anxious to see what all this will prove to mean later.
Just one tiny note/question this time:
chaise-longue
--> lounge?
Thanks!

Yes, drama in the lambing shed about to be posted. 'Chaise-longue is the French version we use (literally 'long chair') for this particular design of couch.
Many thanks for the kind review and the searching questions.

Thumbs up~!

I call this chapter evolution and emancipation of the young twins that have a rare talent of making the world around them revolutionary. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the next chapter.

Thank you for this review. I agree with you. Educational improvements allowed and encouraged such achievements to blossom.

You told well Jack's secret room. I could easily vizualise the parent's stunned reaction to finding out the twin's different directions. Loved the change at the end of the chapter, going back to the farming with the lambing season. Enjoyed this chapter Jim, going well with this,
Happy Easter to you and yours,

Many thanks for this positive, six-star review. I am particularly pleased that you found the reactions easy to visualise

-I like the picture you chose;
it sets the scene for what we
learn about Jack's hobby.
-These twins are certainly
very talented, and I wonder
where it all came from.
-They are creative with a good
mind, and very organized.
-The also make sure any chores
or work to be done on the
farm is done, too.
-I like how Jack shows up while
his parents didn't know it, but
it all went well and promises were
made not to mention anything
until it was brought up by them.
-The ending is good, showing how
work on the farm is not easy, and
everyone is needed to help.
-Well done.

Thank you for this interesting review. Previous generations of working class children did not have the educational opportunities available to 20th century children. And Jack was of course brought up amongst the engineering of the mill

You are very welcome and I appreciate your reply.

hello
I can add nothing because really the six does that, does it not?
I am not around much at the moment, as I am taking a writing course that is pretty full on.
I am glad I popped in and caught this...
May you stay safe, though I think Wlaes is pretty much in lockdown...

Tommy and Heather seem to have raised two remarkable children. Just goes to show what can happen in the absence of TV and computer games! LOL
I have a suspicion we may be in for another dramatic moment soon, what with the lambing and two gifted children!

Many thanks for this review, which is much appreciated. Tup is an English word meaning ram or an entire, not castrated male sheep.
Comment from Cass Carlton
So, the twins have "nailed their colours to the mast" and their parents have given their blessing. That's one situation that won't become a problem. And now it's lambing time. I recall my own experiences while living in the country to know that there will be sleepless nights ahead, with motherless lambs
needing round-the-clock feeding. Some of the ewes will lose their babies and they will be coaxed into taking on an orphaned lamb instead. It is labour intensive and exhausting,
but enormously satisfying once the flock is stable and the lambs are frisking in the warm Spring sunshine.
Lambing indoors is just another way of expressing the plan of keeping the ewes close to their time under cover such as a large barn or shed. They are watched carefully for signs of imminent delivery and assisted (if necessary) when the time comes. That way, there is less mortality and a higher yield in viable lambs.
If the stock is particularly valuable the outlay in effort is well worth it. I had the satisfaction of saving seven lambs from death at birth and also coaxing a ewe to "adopt" two as her own when her twin lambs didn't survive a difficult birth.
So, good luck to the workers on Jericho Farm, They will need
everyone they can utilise for this vital event in the farming almanac. cheers Cass

If you look into the lambing shed on Wednesday you will see a revealing drama unfold. Thank you for this six-star review. It is great to be reviewed by someone with experience of what one is writing about. Thanks for your understanding.

I'm coming in at the middle (or more) of this story, but it was not hard to figure out what's going on in this chapter. Your introduction and timeline helped out. Well written story, with realistic dialogue. Looking forward to reading more of the story.

It must be daunting to come in and review a middle chapter, so thanks for doing just that. I hope you'll stay with us. Sunday any and Wednesday are the days this novel gets posted.
-
Thanks. I'll watch for them.
