Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Touching poem for an amazing young girl. I find the most heartbreaking part of her story to be how close she was to gaining freedom at the time of her death. So tragic.

All the best.

You never disappoint. Such a poignant story told in so few words. I wonder if they still teach about Anne Frank in the schools. I would say you have more than met the club challenge.

    Hello Susan :)
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I appreciate you...
My daughter learned about Anne Frank in school last year when she was 12 (Year 7 in the UK.) She bought the book for me for Christmas.
    Best wishes, Debra :)

I'm glad they are still teaching about her in the UK. I'm not very confident about here in the US.

I loved reading about the true history of Anne Frank. In America, we're having a history crisis, people unhappy with our true history. I guess they can't handle the truth anymore and would rather believe a lie. This is refreshing because it's true. It undoubtedly has unpleasant parts to it, even horrific, but truth told is always welcomed in me. Sending you my best for this marvelous short verse,
Sal XOs....

Very well written, Debra. We studied the book in middle school and it came as something of a surprise to me to learn that certain locations had banned or censored her diary.

Your fine haiku illustrates the young girl's life during Nazi Germany. And so poignant your satori line.

Excellent contribution to the haiku club

Gloria

Hello Gloria :) Thank you for your great feedback.
I had never read the book before, but my daughter bought it for me at Christmas and I'm part way through reading it. We visited the Anne Frank museum in Amsterdam a few years ago. It's situated in the building where the hidden annexe was. The atmosphere there is so strange.
    Best wishes, Debra :)

A sad indictment of human traits as this story tells of the horrors the Jews suffered during the war. Fortunately her diary survived and I remember reading this book when I was at school. A fine Haiku Debra, love Dolly x

You did a great job with your haiku for this outstanding book, Debra. Your word choices are precise, the alliteration of s is used well, and your satori is great, although so poignant. Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Heartrending--stunning closer says it all--Brilliant. Ironic twist on the usual peaceful sunset, ocean, mountains, yada yada haiku imagery. FIne work.

This contemporary haiku speaks volumes. The title ties in with the poem's subject very effectively. The underlying mood of the piece is clear. Nicely presented.

What a great book for you to create your book title haiku for! I think most of us read her book and it has made such a profound impact by giving us the a face and personal life to the myriads impacted by that horrible time in history.
