I think, next to odors, music must trigger the most memories. Why else do we 'baby boomers' prefer the music from the 50's and 60's. And we know more than just the 1st two lines of the songs. This will draw the reader in to reflect upon their song memories.

If I really think about it, I don't even recognize how many memories are triggered by just a simple Song. But it happens all the time. Thanks for your comments. Hugs.

Music does that. The first few notes can twinge your memory. But, mostly the songs that get me the most are the ones I loved from sixteen years old to late in my forties. So much is tied up with music during those years.

I like this reminiscing cinquain. Music from the past certainly stirs lots of memories, including grief experienced in youth. It's sometimes to dismiss emotions felt in youth. It's a good idea to recall them from time to time.

I like this very much, but why grief? Of course songs can bring back both good and bad memories. I have a song that I have to turn off anytime it comes on the radio, because it was playing when my father died. Best of luck in the contest.

When I think of the word "grief, "I do not only connect it to the death of a loved one, although that is what people think of first. It can also be a lost relationship, the loss of a pet or job, The loss of youth or the loss of freedom, or anything else. Some songs just make me feel that grief all over again. "Tears in Heaven" reminds me of my grandfather's funeral, and "the Dance" by Garth brooks reminds me of when we lost my aunt. Then, there are songs that remind me of when my kids were little, and now they're grown, so I kind of grieve those times also.
I said "foregone "because it is a grief that I have pushed into my past and rarely ever experience anymore... except when I sing those certain songs.
