A very inventive write and I loved the story! Is this how aliens have infiltrated our society? He he he. My sister once made a transaction at the bank and they told her she was deceased and had to prove who she was!
I have just one suggestion for this line:
(It was time to (take) us home as our expertise . . .)

This is an interesting story. It definitely is scary if one lost one's identity.
You are a good story teller. You went through the verification from the colleagues, the relatives, etc... Everyone confirmed it was a deceased identity.
