Thank you for Sharing your poem iand History lesson in a gramatic tone befitting the Celebration. So much of our worlds history and Celebratory Holidays have been bent to distort their reality over time. Enjoyable and Thanks for Sharing. Blessings.

Mary,

I read a book on St. Patrick. His life story was amazing.

Great opening line!

Your rhymes and rhythm made this fun to read. Excellent tribute to the man who saved Ireland.

Congratulations on your win!

Patricia

Well, Mary, heavens to Betsy, I think you probably burst a bunch of bubbles. not Irish? and all that nekkid carryin'on and such? saints presarv us! ;)
One thing for sure, your rhyming and meter are spot on and you certainly kept the story moving. I guess everyone SHOULD know the truth about the man, and you explained it beautifully.
Congratulations on winning the contest!

Thanks so much, Katharine. If ye notice, I have the good saint goin' to a St. Joseph's table - enough of a hint that ye shouldn't take me too, too seriously. But the fella was indayd a Roman. Born in England, but a Roman nonetheless.

I love you poem. It had great rhyme and it was a lot of fun to read. The problem is I got though reading a story that also had the same title as this poem that English and that he was kidnapped and sent to Ireland as a young man as a slave. He later escaped when back to England where he studied in a monastery before returned to Ireland. This was apparently what he said about himself. Now I'm back to not believing anything I read. I still love your poem.

Thanks so much for your thoughts. Mine is a humorous poem so even I don't take it too seriously. The speaker obviously isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Patrick definitely had Roman blood, but he grew up in England, and there may have been some intermarriage along the way. An article I looked at called him Romano British. If you ever get to go to England, check out the city of Bath, named for the Roman baths that the Roman conquerors built for themselves. If you're interested in Irish history, I highly recommend Cahill's book, HOW THE IRISH SAVED CIVILIZATION. In any event, I appreciate your kind words.

I would loved to have to have visited the UK. I have been to Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. I did see some roman baths in Pompeii.

It is an interesting story that St Patrick is not Irish...

I like how you say it that he isn't Irish: "But oh, he loved the Irish, and he had the Irish touch. He crossed the sea to save us, to teach God's holy word, For way back then, the Irish had the Gospel never heard."

Great job. Good luck to your contest.

This is very creative, and original, and it combines the story of St Patrick,
and the Irish, with wit and good humour. Your poem is well written, with an easy flow. Hope it does well.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This wonderful lilting poem has got to make it to the winner's enclosure - history told with a sense of fun and superb understatement'Patrick plucks a shamrock and he tells a different tale'

A little history included in this piece that I am sure, like me, a good amount of people didn't know.

The piece was a tad hard to read as the lines were so close together there was no white space to help guide the eye. I also stumble a bit through the words as I read it aloud. I don't know if this is because I kept losing my place or because I could not find the beat of the piece.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.

This is a fun bit of history that either isn't well known or is pretty much forgotten. I enjoyed the rhythm and rhyme to your poem and wish you well in the contest.
