I remember parades when i was younger. The day is not celebrated so much here in the west. I guess the parades are really American things not so much in Ireland. Nice write for the contest.

I live in Chicago and normally we have TWO parades celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Both were cancelled this year because of the pandemic, but the river was still dyed green. Many thanks for sharing my poem.

I managed to wish a person from Ireland a happy St Patrick's day today. Your cheerful Poe added a magical sparkle to my life here, much enjoyed, I drink to his special day, love Dolly x

This is a great, frolicking rhyme for St. Paddy's Day. We can envision all of the singing and dancing, drinking and eating of traditional Irish food. And all the bright greens surround us. Good luck in the contest.

Great entry for the competition, I liked the use of the repeated line.
I think you covered all the things the Irish love.
Good luck in the competition

I did try to convey most of the things the Irish love, but forgot about the food. Many thanks for sharing my poem and your best wishes.

The luck of the Irish be with ya, Author. If ye celebrate be sure to kiss the gals or fellas. :) Don't drive if ye drink more than one or two... well no more than ye can handle. Wear your heart on your sleeve your mask on your face and enjoy the cheer and be a dear. This is a good offering for the St Patrick's Day Contest. Thank you for sharing.

This poem, When Irish Eyes are Shining, reminds the reader how we all become Irish for a day. There will be green beer, potato soup, and corn beef hash.

Of all the things I mentioned in the poem the Irish love, how could I forget the food? Many thanks for your kind response.

Decades ago, I became aware of the tradition of wearing green on St. Patrick's Day--and getting pinched if you didn't! I soon concluded that people who liked pinching others just used the day as an excuse! LOL! Your poem is excellent--with good rhyming and meter, vivid descriptions, and a lively tone.

I had forgotten about the pinches, Janice. I remember how the girls screamed, often with delight. Many thanks for your wonderful praise of my poem.

Thank you for sharing this St. Patrick's Day poem. I thought it might make a good children's poem, until I got to the second stanza and read about drinking beer and getting drunk. Regarding Bing Crosby, I've read he had quite a bit of Irish in him. Anyways, good luck with your contest entry!

My hopes are that this poem will appeal to ALL readers, but maybe stanza two should be censored for children. Many thanks for your best wishes.

Awesome poem - you did a great job capturing the pre-pandemic energy of St. Paddy's! Your words made me nostalgic for New York City on this day. I'm not there this year for the first time in 12 years but I'm sure it's very different there and in other major cities. Good luck on the contest!!
