This is a flash from my past. At the time I was traveling from New Jerey to Staten Island for work. You have described the event as it happened . Good luck in the contest.

i felt these men went the extra mile, knowing they were going to die, but doing the right thing for others. Such bravery goes beyond words. Thanks for the review. Smiles to you!

This one-hundred-fifty-word big event flash fiction story, Highjacked-UA Flight 93, has the proper word count and imagines the scene within that doomed flight which has become the symbol of America's rise-to-the-occasion, fight-to-death spirit.

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

There are no words in the vocabulary for "Bravery"!
One deciding to give their life for others is scriptural and is worthy of belief of everlasting with a hope of eternity. An only hope given to all of us left behind in a sick world, of sinful humans. Difficult and unthinkable for all loving and compassionate humans, striving to do good for themselves and all others.

Comfort is gained, sort and found by some through belief in God, and forgiveness with the support of Scripture, starting and following through with the instructions written in St.John 3:16. " If we will "Believe to be saved".

We who live will never be without the pain or even be able to understand or experience what others have endured or given to set us free. But we can seek to educate and give whatever of ourselves to the good of their memories, until that day when we will also be rewarded.
We also have been promised for our belief, faithfulness, and trusting in God's Grace "A Peace not as this world gives"!

Yes! "We hurt but we can overcome!" Only if we believe and decide to uniquely allow, healing to happen in time.

Unforgiveness and anger only devalues the memory, of the Good, Unselfish Love, and Bravery of those sacrificial Lives. We shall never forget, so thank you for the reminder.
All the best with your gift of writing.

What a wonderful and touching review on my contest entry, Hijacked - U.A. Flight 93. I believe these honorable men, knowing they were going to die, showed no fear in giving their best to save so many others. Your review and the stars are accepted with great gratitude. Smiles to you and wishing for a blessed day. Carol

Thank you for writing this, for sharing it with all of us. Those who were alive then have this, and the Twin Tower and Pentagon attacks indelibly written on their soul. I recall, while reeling from the shock and terror and anger--the story of Flight 93 began to be told. At a time when all of the United States seemed to have been brought to its knees by Al Qaeda (check your spelling please on this)- The story of a small but determined group of passengers foiling yet another flight destined toward destruction put the phrase "Let's Roll" on our lips. The personal story of those brave men allowed me to begin to process the immensity of the stories of the nearly 3,000 whose lives were lost in this brazen attack on America.

Note regarding spelling: "Al-Qaeda (/ æ l Ë? k aɪ d É?, Ë? æ l k É?Ë? Ë? iË? d É? /; Arabic: اÙ?Ù?اعدة â?? al-QÄ?Ê¿idah, IPA: [ælqÉ?Ë?Ê?ɪdÉ?], translation: "The Base", "The Foundation", alternatively spelled al-Qaida and al-Qa'ida"

Excellent submission--get's my vote!

Karenina - Thanks for catching my error. And for the awesome review. I agreed with everyone that JFK was a very dramatic time, but I didn't want to do the same thing. Writing about the people who knew they were going to die, but fought to save the White House is so heroic. Thanks again. Smiles to you!

I understand. Of course I recall where I was when JFK was assassinated--but equally where I was and how I felt when first learning of the 9/11 attack and the ensuing reporting of the heroes of flight 93. The willingness to sacrifice their lives for the greater good -- by everyday citizens on what should have been a routine flight -- It's always captivated me. You wrote about it so clearly...it was an easy decision to vote for you, Anonymous!--Karenina

Yes, that was a tragic flight and those who sacrificed their lives to prevent and even greater death toll are exactly what the word hero represent. To the lives of others before your own.

Now, this contest is silly. It asks for a historical event, but the contest is flash fiction, not flash non-fiction.

I agree...so I tried to stick with what I read about it but then added conversation where I felt it should be. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review. This is an event that destroyed so many families and made a mark on the US that I will never forget.

We all remember where we were that day. We got to live another day, these heroes and the passengers on board, didn't. This was indeed a big event. You words enabled us to 'flash' into the scene. Chaos. Heartbreak. Well written.
