This is such a fun, delightful poem that made me smile...especially the last line. I could definitely feel the flowers pain but you came to the rescue. I can see why this poem won, thanks so much for sharing. :)

Very lovely picture and poem. I live out in the Antelope Valley in California and one of our yearly festivals is the Poppies Spring return, sadly this year it's so barren and dry, no gold in the hill sides this year. I enjoyed this poem offering Thanks for Sharing your poetry. Blessings.

I am sad that your festival was ruined by drought. You people in California seem to get either too much rain or not enough. Many thanks for sharing my poem and your kind praise. Rod

-Very good artwork
and nice presentation.
-A well written poem
about spring with
effective imagery and rhyme,
like "carnival of blooms."
-I also like the nod to Dickens.
-The closing lines are very
good, too.
-Good luck in the contest.

This is simply great. The lines scan and rhyme perfectly. And the thought is priceless - surprising and refreshing. Who hasn't wished that a garden would water itself? I love the Dickens reference. Good luck with the contest.

We are going into Autumn here in Australia and I feel for your frustration at being able to make sure every thing gets a bit of water. I've lost so many plants this 40C summer and I just get them growing and the heat just gets in to their system and I lose yet another. Good luck.

It's hard to believe that at the other end of the globe you're going into Autumn, not Spring. I am sorry you lost so many plants this summer, but appreciate your sharing my poem. Rod

You?re welcome. Yes it often fascinates me that other countries are 12? deep in snow and we are fighting bushfires in temps of 46C.

This is a delightful poem. Already, the text alone is suggestive of a young child gardner, but the image chosen to complement the poem reinforces this proposition, and provides more information. Well done!

Comment from Wendy G
So beautiful! I can really relate as we have just concluded one of the most severe droughts in history, and were on very tight water restrictions. So hard to watch plants dying, but much worse for the farmers. Very well expressed!

This is written for fun, and I truly enjoyed the writing and the irony. I love the reference to Oliver Twist ... what a creative way to use the quote.
Very nicely done.
