Alas, Liz, I don't revel in confrontation. You might even call me "George McFly". I can't remember the last time a fellow FS member was mean to me, but it has happened. Generally, I will simply mute the culprit. But it bothers me so badly that I won't be able to write or review for weeks. Only a few fans miss me when I'm gone. But it is nice to be missed.
Bottom line, it doesn't pay to start bouncing insults like a basketball.
Hugs,
Kimbob

On the other hand--when the back-and-forth is energizing and entertaining, I like to have a record of it!
PLEASE DON"T DISAPPEAR--you'd be missed!

You have all the fun! I have yet to experience my first spectacular jousting of sundry witty and witless warriors.
Everyone has so far been very respectful and kind in their reviews of my posts, so I've had no cause to be nasty in my thank-you replies. But just wait! I can be as witless as the next guy LOL

I usually spend three on Sunday, two on Monday, and struggle to save one for Saturday.
As for the rest--when the back-and-forth is energizing and entertaining I like to have a record of it!

I see.

I got a dreaded "4"--which by some strange psychological algorithm, when "shaken not stirred" with the screwy expectation that if it's not a five we're not alive--gave me the instinct to give a "knee-jerk" embattled reply to said reviewer. I refrained from answering for an hour and moved on. Alas, by the time I'd finished answering some 30 plus reviews of the work HE critiqued I....well how can I say this. Hmmmm. I COULD SEE HIS POINT and HIS SUGGESTION for improvement. I guess the rub is I give editorial comments, points and suggestions as well. I just don't kick a writer down a star for it. Lesson learned. Let it pass. DO NOT ENGAGE!--Karenina

I seldom run across such dilemmas. But, I have done what you do, wait until my stash is replenished and notify the author. I've had a few instances where I feel unfairly judged. I've been muted twice by one person and once by another. It seems in those cases, that if I couldn't agree with their POV I was erased. It takes all kinds, Liz.

Funny, how we may find ourselves "inexplicably" unmuted--the simple explanation: there's a limit of 6 mutes; the needed to free up space for a fresh offender!

Thanks for this, Liz. I was thinking about all the comments that some of your posts have brought out, mine included, and after posting I worried about what affect that might have. I think I've learned my lesson. Some days it's more difficult than others to

Well, I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I never thought about waiting a week to give a spectacular piece a six. Of course, at my age of half-Alzheimer's I would probably delete the piece or forget to review. Thanks for sharing.

Once I forgot all about a piece for a few weeks--luckily I was perusing her profile after reviewing something else and recognized the title.
RE the rest--when the back-and-forth is energizing and entertaining--e.g. with you-- I like to have a record of it!

Hello Elizabeth :)
Good point, well made.
Although reading the back and forth between reviewer and writer in 'view ratings' can be a great source of entertainment, I do agree that it is often much wiser to use the private message facility for some things!
Best wishes, Debra

Hi..in some way I would like to see more atual discusions about work, rather than the obligatory 5 and 'nice story, fine , smooth , well chosen words'...I can't learn if not challenged, but I also should be able to explain why I made the choices I made...but then this is nt that kind of thing...any day we can get a few people up who actually want to read eachother's work and do some serious feedback, that would be great by me...

f you foresee the spiral, and can't resist the temptation to retort, at least take it off-line. It's this really happening, I guess I am just overlooking negative stuff and move on, not wanting to create a scene:) Thank you for sharing as always a ode to my critics kind.
