Hello Rdfrdmom2
Your chapter in the book Ruminations from an Unplanned Caree
Schools Closed Due to COVID-19
I'm glad to know that the the meal problem was solved.
And the plan to open the school next month. I have a question what is a Chromebook
Jan, do you mean to say September 2021 instead of September 2020

no, we were hoping to open this past fall - but, nope - Chromebooks are similar to laptop computers but only use Google documents and not Word - Jan

I am pretty sure we would all survive and be a lot better off if the State Testing was permanently eliminated. It sound pretty much what happened here. The 'Hot Spots' didn't work well and still are not working as planned.

It is ridiculous in this day and age that the USA does not have the internet infrastructure that hot spots are not necessary. Thanks I do believe some good things will come out of all this. Jan

A very interesting essay here, Jan. It always pleases me to see people overcome bad situations with determination and hard work. Unfortunately money enters into any picture and greed sometimes wins out. In the case of Richmond area schools it seems like everyone pitched in to survive,
Bless you, my friend.

We are actually in Suffolk, the southernmost part of Virginia. Richmond is our state capitol. Jan

I have twin brothers that live in Virginia. Colonial Heights to be exact. Bob

That's only about 80 miles from me.

My one brother worked at Fort Lee for years. The other twin was with Associated Press until he retired last year. Bob

So many issues that had to be considered for your students, and how pleasing that the food was generously supplied along with the other tools for on-line learning. Well written and interesting.

Wendy, if the kids are hungry, you can't teach them. Thanks so much. Jan

I work with parents that have struggled so much with online and virtual learning. It's a learning curve for everyone. At my nephews school they delivered food to their door steps. I'm not sure if they did it daily or weekly. I know my sister went to the school to pick up gallons of milk and stuff. It's been a crazy ride but somehow we're getting through it.

Yes, and hopefully, most people have learned to be more compassionate because of it. Jan

You did a good job, Jan, explaining so many 'things' that the virus caused that had to be worked out. I loved reading how the food was handled to help those in need. Also, the superintendent seemed to be ready for most anything unforeseen. He was a step ahead of all. I'm glad the students made progress. It was a tough year for everyone.
Respectfully, Jan

Yes, our new superintendent was/is definitely a man for such a time as this. He and our state supt. of schools are close friends, he has lots of contacts, and had worked in larger school systems who were doing proactive things. I really like him. Jan

This is a piece of writing describing how the government handles the school situation. At least the government is considerate to arrange meals for the students.
I like the picture... It reminds me of my old school days.
Thank you doe sharing.

Actually, for the most part, the school system took care of the meals. Jan
