What a wonderful, heartwarming memory of a woman who obviously enriched your life with her warmth, good humor, compassion, shared laughter and blueberries.
We all need such a friend; few of us find one. I was lucky to have one of those too. Someone who makes you smile, even after they've passed on, has never really died.
Thank you for sharing.

Amada,

What a sweet offering to your friend! I know she would love it and be so honored. The best gift we can give someone is to remember them, don't you think?

I liked this line, especially, with the double-edged use of steps:
The happy years, however, marked its steps, and one morning Lois lost her ability to walk.

Thanks!

Great job. I really liked Lois and you painted a pretty picture of what it was like to be her friend. I particularly liked the ending. Best of luck in the contest.

This is very heartwarming and short which makes it easier to read. Lois sounds like she'll be in your heart and soul with a lifetime of memories.
In the final summation, I notice you use the word "hello" twice very close together. I might suggest you choose another way to say the second 'hello' so as to not be repetitive. Just a thought, no pressure for sure. The artwork is special and suits the post well.
Thanks for sharing about the close friend you made and shared blueberry pie with, (among other things, of course).
Jesse

Hi jesse, thank you for reading my work and for noticing that double word. Luckily I fixed it already, I was rushing to post before the contest ended. Thanks!!

What a very beautiful story of friendship, and the love and companionship between neighbours. I like the idea of a friendship fence. Your story is well- written. Best wishes for the contest.

In this short story, you managed to convert something sad (Lois' loss of ability to walk) into a strong, positive memory (the walking frame that kept her happily able to inspect her garden). I do not count death as something sad, it is a natural universal outcome to life. Thank you for sharing this excellent insight into your life. Katherine xx

I must commend you on the wisdom you've expressed in this piece. You had a dear friend who, sadly, has gone the way of all flesh. Now,instead of complaining about your loss, you speak of her lovingly, recalling her bright eyed gaze and unfailing ability to set your rocking boat straight and glide in untroubled waters. Many others have a different view on losing some-one dear to them,so your attitude is to be noted and encouraged.I have little doubt that at the time of loss your feelings were as raw and lacerated as the closest relation's.. But you have chosen to honour your dear one with a smile and a happy memory.Welll done cheers Cass
