Congratulations on a well deserved win! And, I see you already have one of those chartreuse plus signs on your touching little piece. Scott just had to stumble on the right area of interest to get Johnny's attention.

Thank you! This one was from the heart. Johnny's life was changed in so many ways by special people who stepped up and gave that little extra. This is fiction but the premise behind it is very real. Smiles to you!

This story, Up, Up, and Away, held my attention throughout as I waited for the solution to Johnny's sad state. Amazing what some inspired research and actions can render. Neat story.

Congratulations on your win! This is a great and endearing story. I retired as an early childhood educator, and this story put me back in a classroom with a troubled child. The child's reaction in the story is authentic, and the fact that one teacher was able to get a reaction when another teacher could not is a realistic occurrence. This story builds in suspense and is creatively written.

Thank you so much for your kindness in reading as well as reviewing my story. I have an adult special needs child who experienced similar things but not the same. Matter of fact, if one doctor hadn't taken the chance and did a surgery that others refused - Johnny wouldn't be alive today. Smiles to you!

What an interesting story! The poor little boy just didn't know how to deal with the death of his father. He was still in shock and hadn't really dealt with the reality yet. But when Scott started with the airplanes it brought the little boy into the action and having a conversation. Now that the ice had been broken he will be ready to talk and face his feelings.
Great story. Good luck with the contest.

My son like Scott could not or would not talk to anyone. He was a happy boy but there was no communication. Then a new therapist took him to the park everyday and they played outside like kids together. After 2 weeks, he showed my son some picture flash cards. A fireman with a hose and and a chair. His first words were water and sit. Our miracle! Thank you for your kindness.

It's good that Scott was able to read Johnny's records. We are only told about the automobile accident but not that his father was a pilot so it was a surprise to the reader and Cindy about the enjoyment of paper airplanes. I thought it was a bit unprofessional to have that conversation about the date and to leave the patient to return the keys. But it turned out that led to the breakthrough. Best wishes in the contest.

Helen - Good thing my therapists are not real so I don't need to worry about laws and that they were professional. Though I am positive that the same thing happens in many places every day. Thanks for taking the time to read and review.

This is a beautiful story for the contest prompt. I really enjoyed it as I am a school counselor. I love the inventiveness of scott who really understood this little guy.

Good story. I saw only the one mistake you made. Your sentences and thoughts throughout the story were right on! Good luck in the contest!

It's so wonderful to witness the miracle: "Johnny smiled and nodded. He handed Scott one of the planes. "You do it."

Scott tossed it in the air. It made a crash landing on Cindy's head as she opened the door. Her mouth dropped open. She was amazed at what she saw.

"What happened? What did you do?"

"We're flying paper airplanes." Scott ruffled Johnny's hair. "His daddy was a pilot."

Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.
