Hello, Anonymous,

Excellent entry for the Movie Magic writing prompt contest.

Bogart and Hepburn made a wonderful couple. The African Queen is a classic...good choice.

Well done, my friend. Good luck.

AFRICAN QUEEN is one of my all-time favorite films. As you say, Bogart and Hepburn were "awesome" and the plot was exciting. Indeed, the boat was the true hero. Rod

Great entry for the movie magic prompt. It's true magic when a film manages to create a character from inanimate objects. You see this a lot in horror films in particular, often with other types of "vessels". I'm thinking Hill House in the Haunting or the Lutz' family home of Amityville Horror. I appreciate your use of the classics here. Great retelling and excellent source material. Good luck in the contest!

You met the criteria, I never saw the movie, but I know the work of the actors. Both always bring me joy. My only complaint about your poem is the dark font and dark background make the piece hard to read. I had to enlarge it to read.

I have to agree that your choice is a good contender. Who could forget him pulling the old girl(s) through the swamp and becoming covered with leeches? Katherine Hepburn is one of my favorite actresses. She always carried herself as if she were a queen.

I don't have favorites, so those kinds of prompts are difficult for me. But who could not love Bruce Willis in The
Fifth Element, or Kevin Costner in Dances with Wolves? See my predicament?

The first three lines of this set up a sound and steady rhythm that simple collapses in the fourth line and is never rediscovered in the second stanza. So the only unity the poem possesses is in its content, with which I wholeheartedly agree, the boat was the star.

That photo speaks volumes to me, first the obligatory cigarette which was a symbol back then of being cool and sexy, also her gazing up at him as if he is in charge and without him she would be lost, how times have changed. I have seen the movie and it is of course a classic. Far fetched and gritty and you brought the scene to life here, love Dolly x
