Yes, it is a bit of 'sore spot' for many, Debra -- and I just love the way you've turned it into your club challenge here! ;) Even when I have an offering in a contest, I take the time to read through (and most of the time leave a review for!) every other offering... :) ;) Thanx for sharing, my lady! ;) Yvette

I can see where your niggle comes from Debra, I always think it's the well known poets that usually win the vote so I don't usually bother to enter. Good use of the Octelle form. Good luck in future contests.

Hi Pearl, thank you for your understanding feedback :) I don't often enter contests any more either! Best wishes, Debra

Niggle as you will! Spot-on. I rarely vote in the contests simply because it would be too time-consuming to read each entry. As you say, it isn't fair not to. Well said.

Debra,

hahahaha Welcome to FanStory and the way things often work. If I were you, I would just be thrilled and honored you're at the top and often get in the running for POM and such. Not many get that kind of honor. It truly shows the caliber of writing you offer.

You can't do anything about the folks who skirt the rules. That's on them. Thanks - I enjoyed!

    Hi Robyn :)
    Thanks for your feedback!
After 8yrs membership at Fanstory, this is the first time that I ever had a poem nominated for POM...and yes, I was totally thrilled and more than a little gob-smacked! I guess that's why I was so niggled to discover that, yet again, not many voters read all the entries before they placed their vote. My bad for expecting any different!!
You're right though and as for the rule-skirters, it's on them ;)
    Best wishes as always, Debra

This octelle, Niggled, brings up the old complaint that people don't read all the competitor's works. Promotion gets readers...period.

Hi Bill, thank you for stopping by to read my moany poem! I appreciate it, especially since it isn't highly promoted (grin!) Thing is, I haven't the time or the money needed to promote much higher than the base certificates (sigh...)
It's an age old complaint, I know...it just bugged me a little more than normal today LOL
    Best wishes, Debra :)

Hello Debra,
This is an excellent poem on the topic of voting on the site.
Yes, I think it niggles many on fanstory,
but, alas, it is the way it always has been.
Some won't enter contests because of it.
But the site also has many pluses.
Best wishes to you.
Robert

    Hi Robert :)
Thank you for reading and commenting on my poem.
I agree, it is the way that things have always been around here and I don't see it changing, ever! Nonetheless, I enjoy Fanstory despite the niggles!
    Best wishes, Debra :)

Thanks for stating this. Here's the thing: if it's a committe nomimation, I take it more seriously and review the writing. If it's a prompt, there's up to twenty poems sometimes. It gets very frustrating to read through a pile and not find one I think is worthy of my vote. Half the time, I move on or pick the first one I like. The reality of the day is I'm a writer too, and I have only so much time to devote to my work as well as review. I see here, I'm not the only one with this problem. Thanks so much for sharing this in Debra fashion. :))
Sending my very best today as always,
Sally XOs...

Nice poem about the frustration of the voting process, I feel it as well. Very few people actually seem to take the time to vote which is frustrating in itself and entries are often not read or it seems like a vote is not for well-written poetry, but for a belief or cause. (My rant over). And you better have lots of member bucks or you'd be lucky to have it read at all. Thanks for sharing!!

Hello :) Thank you for reading and commenting on my moany poem! May I also share your frustrations that you aired in your comments?!
Enjoy your weekend, best wishes, Debra :)

You may. I've thought perhaps bonus cents or pumps could be awarded if people vote to entice more people to take the time, with an added plea to read all entries before voting. I've seen some pretty poorly-written poems get a lot of great reviews or votes and I find it hard to understand--they don't even make sense or are very dry and flat, more blank statements than poems. But, what can we do? :) Tough, but I don't have the answers.

Me neither, but I'm glad we are not alone in our puzzlement!
    Best wishes, Debra :)

This is a clever way to address the topic, and well expressed. It could be that some people have so fallen in love with a particular piece that they know they are going to vote for it, no matter what. And then of course, there are those who vote for themselves. It could also be that people have read them all, or most, at the times they were posted and don't need to read them again. I think the voting booth is more about popularity of various pieces than about judging the quality of writing.

You have made an excellent point, Debra!! Thanks for calling the FS community out on it. It seems there are tons of little niggles throughout this site... many of them can be found on the Forum site that allows for tons of space to air opinions. I like to go there and see what is going on :). Great write.

Melissa
