Yovnne,
This is a wonderful story of love and surprise. I can imagine the joy on your mother's face when she got Edna. It's amazing she has lasted this long. You are right about the respect she deserves.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Congrats on placing second in the contest.
Joan

A lovely story, your Edna, Damommy. It is fascinating and moving how an inanimate object can become real, and clothed not just in thrift-shop clothes, but the memories and hopes and fears of the times. I must know: is this Edna that you have pictured for your story?

Yes, it is. She sits in the little rocking chair my mother had since she was two years old. Edna's almost like a sibling. hahahahaha. Thank you for lovely and delightful review. Very much appreciated.

What a treasured doll Edna must be. The memories you have shared makes the moment special, but as you said, imagine the stories she might tell. wonderful! Smiles to you!

I totally loved this story, Yvonne. Your lovely 90 year-old Edna has gone the way all us oldies do. Thinning hair, creaking legs needing thick tights to keep them going a little longer, but she still has that beautiful smile. To wear a toddler size 3 dress, she is quite a size and I can understand your mother wanting to own her. Your grandmother was amazing to have saved that amount of money in those days. That was a sign of such love she had for your mum. Beautiful story, my dear SATP. Sending lots of hugs and love. :)) Sandra xxxx

Thank you so much, dear SATP. I'm so happy you liked it this much. I'm not good at story telling, but I thought I'd give it a try. You've made me feel so good about it. Believe it or not, Edna is the same size I was in first grade. I look back and understand why I was teased and bullied so much. They must have thought I was a little freak. lol

Aww, let me at them! I hate bullies. Most of them were probably jealous of your doll. I had a lovely black dolly it was just like a real baby. I could gave it a bottle of water, and then press its tummy so it would wee! Lol. I had it for twenty years and then a neighbours little girl found it and bit all its fingers off!! I was not amused. But what can you say? :))

What a beautiful story. How precious the doll was and is. What love is involved in this story. It is very well written, and the family love through the generations is evident. A treasure for future generations. Best wishes for the contest.

I did enjoy Edna's story of how she came into your family, and what a lucky day that was for both her and your Mum. Some think the old dolls are a bit creepy, not me, she's lovely. Good luck in the contest,
cheers,
valda

Thank you. My mother loved dolls all her life, but none replaced Edna.

What a treasure you have in Edna. The memories that surround her must be so cherished. Ninety years old and she doesn't look a day over 2 years old. LOL. You are blessed to be able to pass her on to your granddaughters. This is a lovely story.

Thank you. I just hope they will value her as much as I do. She's been around all my life, much like having a sibling. lol.

This is wonderful. Sorry I don't have any sixes left at this point in the week, but your story certainly deserves one. Best of luck in the contest with this great true story. Edna has quite a story, and it's fortunate that she has survived the years. None of my dolls did, and I had a Shirley Temple that I was especially fond of. I remember putting clothes on layaway when I was going to college. That was one way we could afford to buy things at that time. Yes, Edna could tell a lot of stories if she could speak. She must be a treasure to have around.

Yes, she is. It's almost like having a sibling, she's been around all my life. lol. Gone are the good old days of lay-away. Everything's credit cards these days. No more anticipating anything. Thank you for a great review, Judi.

You're very welcome. This should be at the top of the heap in the judging. A really great story. Being able to get something on layaway was a boon to me when I was in college. judi

What an amazing story, Yvonne. Good luck in the True Story Contest. I think the picture of Edna is delightful and I am certain of the tales she could weave if able. She definitely looks might fine for her age.

This is a very touching story, Yvonne. My daughter still has her first Teddy. It was the first thing she ever reached for and we bought it for her although we really couldn't afford it that day. I believe he is missing an eye. He would be 65 years old I think. I love your story. She is a beautiful doll. Good Luck. Nancy:)

Thank you. I'm surprised at the people who have their first loves still with them. I have another story about mine.
