This was an excellent story. It seemed like a free verse poem. I think free verse poems are a lot like short short stories. Often many of the stanzas, in my opinion, don't really relate. But in your poem, it all related and told a story of an escape from someone who obviously gave a woman and her children cause to want to flee. I liked the way you used:
"They were all dashed
smashed
crashed
bashed in
like her face"
This was excellent work.

This is a well written poem. Very sad the abuse women have suffered. And still suffer. I can relate sometimes it's hard to get out it takes a long time to walk away. Even when you know it's wrong.well done.

As you know, domestic abuse is a disgusting, truly horrific occurrence that needs to be brought to light. There's power in the prolific literary works of poetry.
I highly commend you for utilizing its vantage point to address the importance of escaping abuse as soon as possible.
Your use of adjectives "saving, stowing, securing" to describe the preparation of leaving it all behind was spot on!

Wow, this is a heavy poem on a difficult subject matter, well done. I know too many women who have suffered abuse, and I found myself pulling for this one to succeed in her escape. Bless you for the work you've done on behalf of suffering women.

This is well written and certainly coveys the desperation of battered women. The ending seems so hopeless, as though none of their dreams could ever come true. Yet I know some do escape, and find happiness and fulfill dreams.

I agree when one finds an escape route take it and never look go to freedom any way you enough is rough the you are apt to snap like in the burning bed.

Thank you for your involved review. You are right, many have begun anew and live full happy lives. And, the best part, so have their children. The cycle was broken. A note on the burning bed. Everytime that movie was shown on tv, there was a report of a women being burned to death. It does not end.
