This is one of the recipes that actually sounds good and the way it is written is with humor mixed in with advice. I liked your poem and might actually try the recipe.

We gotta get more votes for your contest submission. It received my vote for the amusement factor alone. I can't stand grits but thoroughly enjoyed your poem about them. Well done.

Paul, you are funny - made me laugh.
Thank you so much for your neat comments and your vote.
Am out of points to promote higher to get more people to read.
If you could vote for a food poem and you can't stand the food, that is really saying something. Thanks again!

LOL! What a fun poem Katharine. I'm from the north so grits was never anything we had. Now that I live in the south, they are everywhere. I like them when my sister-in-law makes them with butter and brown sugar. But.... my grandsons love the shrimp and grits in your recipe.

Great food recipe poem.

Blessings
Janet

Hi, again, Janet! well, bless your heart. I have never had grits with brown sugar. may have to try that. Cream of wheat is good with butter and sugar, but sugar on grits is a new one on me. Many thanks for your neat comments on my loony effort!!

A great job on putting a recipe into rhyme. Rhyming is great, love the ones you used in the first verse: butter and anutter. Well done, but not a recipe I will try. I did try grits once when travelling, but wasn't impressed.

Non-gritters are generally not from the South, so I understand. There's no converting them - not that I'm trying to. I wrote it, really, just for fun. Thank you for reading my effort and for your nice comments.

Hi Mystery writer

Well, being a Brit I have no idea what grits are but your beautiful poem makes them sound delicious and very, very tasty.
Excellent rhyming throughout. Love the word, anutter rhyming with butter, a nice touch.
Take care Pete

Thanks, Pete. Grits are really a southern thing in the US. I am finding that there are non-gritters in other parts of the country. Grits are kind of a non-sweet version of cream-of-wheat.
Anyway, many thanks for your very kind comments - much appreciated.

A nicely written--and a fine, usable recipe, too. Funny how grits have never become a staple in the northern states. I've always liked grits, but they tend to slip from my list of go-to recipes when I haven't traveled south for any length of time. You may have inspired my breakfast.

Best of luck.

Peace, Lee

thanks, Lee. There are really better recipes than this one, I was trying for short and simple (aiming for cadence, where possible). In fact, I Googled this one. Thanks for reading and for your comments. And happy gritting.

This is interesting, because I don't exactly know what it is? Is it something like rice or quinoa? You have written it well, and I would actually be interested in having a go at it. It is for breakfast or dinner?

Hi, Wendy - grits are good for either if done right. There are much better recipes than this one. I was trying for short and simple - what with aiming for cadence where possible. Shrimp and grits or even grits with crumbled bacon - good for breakfast or supper. There are tons or recipes. Thanks for reading and for your comments, and I hope you enjoy trying them.
Actually, grits are kind of like a non-sweet cream of wheat, meaning you don't add sugar with the butter. Hope you find a recipe that you like.

I don't eat grits, but your recipe poem makes me to want to try cooking some grits soon. I like the way you mentioned both rural and urban, and the adding of shrimp, bacon, and or cheese sounds yummy. I like how you worked in the cook time on the box. How much garlic? Not sure of the value of using "chick" in the poem. I would have like clearer wording of the three different ways to cook grits, your recipe seem to add all three as one way. Bacon should have been mentioned as an option earlier before I was to dig in. Your recipe poem has inspired me to not only to try cooking some grits, but also to try my hand at a recipe poem. Thank you!

thanks for reading and for your comments. There are tons of recipes online, better than that one. I was aiming for quick and simple while trying for cadence as much as possible."Chick" instead of chicken was for fun, trying for the meter, again - not easy writing recipes.
Hope you find a good one and enjoy. Thanks again.

Of course, grits are a staple here in Texas. I enjoyed reading your contest entry, Mystery Author. Your instructions for the e recipe fit in nicely and sounded just like someone from the South sharing it with 'anutter.'
Thanks for sharing and best wishes,
Respectfully, Jan
