I enjoyed your story. I like how you started out with it's simple. But then you keep the reader entertained by describing different aspects of writing. If you haven't read Stephen King's On Writing A Memoir to the Craft, I highly suggest it! You last sentence reminds me of how he started that book, something about you have to have "it" to begin with.
I did find one spot that needs a correction: I get anything to get my hands on to be published.
